your thermatically controlled tranny cooler. Where is the thermostat, and when does it open? Can this be installed inline with the stock cooler on my 92 SSE SC?

The Tru-Cool LPD Thin Cooler is internally controlled by the actual temperature of the Trans fluid. It'* passages internally are restricted in the sense, that when the Trans fluid gets hotter, it gets thinner & therefore it will flow faster and easier. This will generate greater cooling of the fluid.

When the Trans fluid is ice cold, it flows very slowly & therefore restrictive in nature, hence not being able to flow through most of the Oil Cooler'* passage ways. This situation would provide little to no cooling of the fluid.


As to your last question....HELL YEAH !!!!!
This is just a Universal kit when it comes to installing it. Basically you are just "tapping" into the existing trans lines.

So my tranny wouldn't run too cold on cold days?

No colder than it already does normally. Basically it would bypass this cooler on colder days.

Wait, if it was inline, it would restrict all flow by bottlenecking in the new one. If I did it in parallel, it would bypass. Right?

Yes & no.....
Inline it would be fine too as the fluid takes the path of least resistance, hence bypassing most of the more restrictive passage ways. Look at it this way then....There is different sized passage ways inside the cooler. As the fluid heats up it gets thinner & thus it can flow through the sized less restrictive passage way. By the time it gets upto full operating temperature, it'* flowing through just about all of the passage ways inside the cooler.

I get it now, there are larger lines in the cooler that don't cool much. Allowing fluid through to the next cooler.

why not just make it parallel and put a t-stat simular to the engine one in? That seems like the easiest way to do it to me.
