Default Trans cooler.

Ok so as you know i got my car torn apart right now, and My Mechanic/Friend said that now would be a good time to replace the trans cooler that he never really liked in the first place. the way it was before was, it had its original lines that went into the rad and back out, but there was no factory cooler, that after market cooler that was there (around the same size as the factory one) was installed an plumbed by T'ing it off ot the factory lines.

what was suggested was to remove this all together, eliminate the lines going into the rad and have a large new cooler installed (2-2.5 time the size as the original aftermarket one) now this all sounded well and good to me, but my uncle brought up a concern in that it might keep the trans to cool.

what do you guys think about this?

Absolutely bypass the rad on a high-mileage trans and go with a viscosity controlled cooler. I have a monster, and love it.

This allows your trans to warm up normally.

After warmup, when the temp of the fluid rises and the viscosity decreases, it routes the fluid through the fins, cooling it very well.
EDIT AGAIN:
I found a post of yours with 2 links regarding the trans cooler, the first one was a dead link, and the second you said "heres a better description" then posted this http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=352
Is that the Cooler you have or just like it? it says it for "Tru-Cool for Dodge- 1/2" NPT Fittings "

where can i get this bad boy?

You’re looking at a NEW Long Tru-Cool transmission cooler. This cooler is rated at 28,000 GVW and measures 11"x11"x1.5". This is a must for Heavy duty applications, from towing to racing, but is recommended for even daily driven vehicles. Heat is what kills an automatic transmission. If you want to extend the life of your transmission and avoid or prolong a costly rebuild, this is very cheap insurance. All parts are included to mount and plumb this cooler. Retail price is $157. This cooler comes with a manufacturer'* limited lifetime warranty. Don't forget to look at my other items for more great deals.
That price quote is a bit out there. I've never seen one over 100 bucks.
