Default trans swap

well at 230,000 miles the origianal trans is starting to slip little. i think ive heard it here before that i can put a 4t65e in my car with minamal changes. but whats the upside to a 4t65e ? my 4t60e has seen hell and back and is berliy sliping. i do have a topswap plan in the future, but what about the 4t60e hd ? just looking for some insight, will bedoing trans swap in near future.

thanks

Not sure if you can just swap out a 4t60 for a 4t65. The 4t60 has a vacuum controlled pressure, where the 4t65 has electronic controlled pressure.

Been there, done that. Planning on posting the wiring tonight for a guy on another forum.

The basics... have the axles on hand. (I think only the driverside is different, not 100% sure as it'* been a while. Have a pcm with the 97 HD programming in it to handle the change. Automatically use an HD trans. Pull your trans, put this trans in place. Block the vacuum port to the old trans. Take the 7 wire connector, and move one wire at a time to a 4T65 connector, then add 5 more wires into the pcm and have a nice trans.

The 4T65 runs cooler, has a better pump that is suited for the higher rpms. And overall tends to outlast the 60 when pushed. The 60 is known as a great trans because the motors pushing it, weren't pushing all that hard. My choice is the 65. but I'm biased.

okay, ill have to convert the only 4t65e in the junkyard to HD, but its only $100 for any trans. also LSS'* came with the 4t65e HD in 98 and 99, so if i could find one of those pcm'* would it make it easier ?

thanks

1997 would be the pcm you want. The pinouts on the wiring harnesses changed in 98

For someone doing the same swap. Does the PCM have to be re-programmed to tell it it has a 65 now or does it "learn" the new trans on it'* own. I already have a 97 pcm but a 4t60 trans that I'm swapping for a 2000 65-HD.

You mean..besides me? For you, I'd suggest picking up a 97 LSS pcm
There'* only GMtuners.com that supports the LSS'* to my knowledge
