Default Lower 0-60 time on 1990 SSE

I have a 1990 SSE with a stock 3800 LN3 engine. It goes 0-60 in about 10 seconds. What are some mods that could potentially make it a little quicker off the start? I'd like to eventually have it to at least 8 seconds

Not too much modding you can do I'm afraid, you can't tune it so about all you can do is put a cold air intake on, and do an exhaust but I don't think you can do headers so the exhaust won't help you

I would think that it, even in stock form, would be able to do a little better than that. May wish to try full tune up, also if you have the Magnavox style ignition pack, you may want to swap that out with the newer style. You can swap the top end with a slightly newer L27 top end, also considered the series 1. That will gain you about 5 hp. I believe you also can get higher ratio rockers, which will help also. Porting and polishing is always a help, if done properly. There are no big mods readily available, such as headers, cams, etc, however there has been a bit of success with the addition of a turbo. There is one member who did, with interesting results. It is not as hopeless as some would have you believe, especially with as attainable as your current goal is.

Edit: I may be wrong, 10 seconds may not be as far off pace as I originally though, but I am curious to see when the last tuneup was.

Would I be able to fully swap a 3800 series I or II into it?

You can swap anything you want in to there if your willing to do the work. If your going to go that far I say swap in a series 2. however, by the time your done, it may just be better to get a different car. The choice is up to you. Lack of tuning is going to be our biggest obstacle.

I should just wait for an SSEi to pop on Craigslist sometime

It hasn't ever had a tuneup in its history before i bought it, as far as I know. It has 130k on it.

You will be much more happy with a SSEi, my 0-60 time is 5 seconds flat. Providing I can hold traction.
