Throttle body screen - ditch it?
Hi all,
Tinkering with the 95 SSEi little bits here and there, getting it a little quicker, finding little things to do ...
That throttle body screen. Can I just ditch it? It looks like it would be an awful restriction for high air flow. I can only think of 2 reasons for it being there:
#1 to protect SC and MAF from debris, in which case I'll ditch it.
#2 to ensure proper readings from the MAF during low-flow operation, in which case I guess I'll have to keep it, or maybe make a modified one with a larger-spaced grating.
Anyone?
Thanks,
Dan

I was wondering the same thing... Will it do anything for performance at all? or just screw up the MAF readings.
-trying to get what ever HP I can , any tricks will help

Ok, I'll add a Techinfo topic on this. Most of the people who have had good luck removing this are those that are running custom intakes. The air is more laminar coming into the intake plenum, and the MAF doesn't seem to mind if the screen is gone in that situation. Mine sucked. I have a heavily modified airbox. When my ADTR intake arrives (any day now, right Hector? Hector is buried in intakes for the SeriesII right now, and working on his crown Vic projects, not to mention being sick all last week) I'll try it again, then write up a little blurb in Techinfo.

I don't HAVE the freaking chip yet! Where is it? (Hector is contacting Jet Monday). BTW guys, Hector was able to get me the chip, taylor wires, etc. For cheaper than almost anywhere else. There might be a cheaper alternative, but let'* support our support!

I'll tell you when Hector drives up here and delivers it tomorrow! (kidding...Hector'* doing a great job, even if he does work on Crown Vics too.)
I'm gonna start that write-up on the Intake/maf/k&n/oil thing. I'll refine it when I see the results of the ADTR intake. Then I'll post it. I'd rather not put my opinions up in Techinfo without something to back it up. Other peoples' experiences may conflict. We'll see. Maybe I can write it in a step by step fashion that anybody can follow to make all this easier, then we can just refer people up to Techinfo when the time comes.
