Thoughts on mods
Hi again, been gone for a while, life gets in the way.
I'm considering making a few changes to my 97 bonny this year and was wondering what I will get from it.
First, I want to replace my exaust with a free flow cat and remove the resinator. I know this is mostly a estimate but about how many HP will I get doing this if I stay with a 2.5 exaust, and if I went with a 3 inch exaust?
Next I want to upgrade my SC pully, I know stock I should only go as small as a 3.5 but if I make the changes to the exaust first, can I go smaller? If so, at what point should I go? and about how may HP would I be looking at?
Other upgrades are a new PCM, cooler plugs, and perhaps tires.
All I've done so far is a CIA, 180 therm, and gatorback SC belt. Any thoughts on what I have planned?

Don't remove your resonator. It'* not a restriction to you (not for a long time) and I should point out that my 93 never had one. I ADDED one to clean up the sound. It wasn't pretty after upgrading my cat and muffler. The high-flow cat may gain you 5-10hp. 5hp if your current cat isn't clogged, 10hp if it'* old and clogged.
With few mods, a 3" exhaust will kill some low-end torque. There are only maybe 5 or 6 cars on this forum that flow enough to support a 3" exhaust.
Get a scantool or know of one nearby that you can borrow before going any smaller than a 3.5" pulley. You MUST scan for KR before and after, and again as the weather starts heating up. Zero KR now can mean 5-10 degrees in warmer weather.
A SC pulley isn't a magic mod. You may have to do other work to be able to run it. And you need to monitor it fairly frequently. An Aeroforce scangauge would be a good alternative to a scantool.

Ok, so staying with a 2.5 exaust is the best bet, and leaving the resinator on is not a problem.
I have Proscan for my laptop, but it did not have KR, is there something I can check and figure it out? I'll have to see if there is an upgrade at this time.

Ok, got the upgrade an dwill go out to connect to the car. Only problem is it'* single digits here, damn it'* cold. Only a high of 5 today. Oh ya, thought you all might get a kick out of my car from the other week. Drove home from chicago and hit a snow storm in Milwaukee, had to pull over and this is what I found.
Was lucky to hit 40mph.

Allright, that was cold. I saw nothing that said knock retard. Could this be under a different name, such as 1st cylinder timing? If so, I have that. The only thing I learnd is a touch pad dosn't work with gloves, and it also dosn't work real well when your fingers are frozen.

Do you feel it would be a good idea to use the money I planned to use on the new exhaust to get ported manifolds? This should help open up the exhaust and help reduce the KR. From what I have seen, the benifite per cost is better with the manifolds. Then I would be able to look at a smaller pully after I change out the PCM, or would I be better of changing the pully first, or do both at the same time?
