Default LS1 Engine Swap?

Ladies and Gents,

Just wondering if it is indeed possible to put the monster Z06 Corvette engine in the new bonnies? I have a 2001 and would be interested if it'* possible. Also, price isn't an issue but if anyone knows how much it would run me, please let me know. Thanks!

Your best bet is the 4.6l caddy engine in it because it will drop right in without any problem at all. The engine without cost as an issue will put out 700hp ( $20000.00US)and the transaxle can be made to handle it. Now that said you will most likely eat transaxles without some major money spent on it.($10000.00-this price is somewhat a guess the regular price i was quoted was half this.) Other than the physical you will find the computer is your biggest issue.) I have no idea of the cost but a computer tech by the hour will not be cheap) but once again if Money is not the issue I can get you a whole new computer set up for your engine system of your choice. So a 700hp Bonneville with that nice v8 sound is not hard just expensive. The corvette engine might be able to be made to fit but would cost even more and produce an end product that would be the same. Oh if you really want to go nuts I can have your ride done like the famous rwd 5.0l ford focus. That’* right cut and paste a rwd system on your fwd Bonneville. If you are serious about the v8 option I will be making a kit in the future and I am looking for interested people. Contact me either through my site or through this awesome site.

For others who are interested but have a 86-95 Bonneville I can fit you with a 5.0 Cadillac engine that currently puts out 300hp with a limited slip this is the same hp as the stock 4.6l engine. ($9600.00 installed ready to go) I have plans to increase its hp. I have a wish list end power at around 500hp. we will see. Currently you can add a turbo and produce around another 100hp, ( $3500.00) but it has not been done so the turbo power output is all paper (guess) right now.

If you want a stock 4.6 it will run about 3-4000.00 for stock trans and engine. This would include the Cadillac computer. Easy swap. This could be done by anyone who wants to. Also one of my little secrets is you could bolt one up to a 4t65-e because the electronics of the 4t65-e is the same as the 4t80-e. Easy as pie. I haven’t done the 4t65-e deal but I am sure it could be done. If I was you it would be very realistic to swap a stock system and it would be smogable. Then you can add Cadillac performance options in the future. I figure once the sc unit is finished and a few other mods you will have 4-500 hp. I will also be offering engine kits, meaning just the transaxle and computer with the engine.
If you want more details I can even set you up with a great swap company. Also if you are serious I can link you to some videos I haven quite finished messing with.

speedyguy is right. the only viable V8 option is the Caddy'*, because they are FWD. An LS1 or other SBC would be next to impossible because they were only used in RWD applications.

I would say the best bet to making a Bonnie fast is sticking with the stock supercharged 3800, there'* already a guy who'* got his 2000 SSEi nearly into the 11s. Not that the V8 won't be a good setup, but no one has every done it before, while you have a lot of guys (mostly in GPs) going the 3800 route.

GM did do an Impala that has an LS1 and is FWD. The torque steer is too vicious. That engine makes 400hp w/ factory detuning. Sooo..... leave the LS1 in RWD cars..

Ok so what kind of torque did it put out? I never knew the LT1 was ever set up on a fwd transaxle. What transaxle was it set up on?

I’m excited. ba hum bug tooo much torque, there is never enough. Although I have this image of the front end of the car sucking into it self when you rev the engine.

LOL

Default Engine Swap

Speedyguy,

I'd be interested in the engine swap with the Caddy 4.6L V8. What cost am I looking at with complete install, engine swap, (do I need a new tranny for it or no?), and computer?? Just let me know. Thanks!

To make it easy it is better to stay with the caddy unit entirely. Now if you are talking in a 2000-2003 Bonneville you are actually driving an Aurora. G body. So yes the body is perfect for the caddy 4.6l. The deal with California smog is…. you must upgrade and the unit dropped in must include the stock management and exhaust. You can upgrade later. I will get more information on this for you and I can get a play-by-play price for you. I also have a line on the caddy engine and transaxle with computer. I will find out what year is best so I can give you an exact price.

#1 get second measurements of the engine bay that are exact so we can be sure the combo will fit without any surprises. I can do this for you but it would be good if you did it as well. It helps you to get an idea of the feel.

#2 confirm the new engine combo requirements meet the confirmed measurements.

#3 we give you a clear price breakdown and this will include areas of possible variance depending on your needs. Now you send your car with or without the original engine.

#4 we can provide the engine but this would be determined later. Now the only possible difference there is if you provide the engine yourself. The engine transaxle options are wreaking yard or dealer. We get the engines and transaxles at a wholesale price and this would be passed on to you. Yes new engine means no surprises you don’t need.

I will confirm the rest of the details and we can continue to communicate in this forum, but once I provide a price we should talk on the phone and you can e-mail me at www.domesticperformance@attbi.com . I will today provide you with an engine and transaxle combo with wiring price. The next cost will be transport. The swap price is what I will have to work out. The biggest issue is the pit and computer issues. don’t get me wrong its not hard just takes time to do it RIGHT. Careful many people will send you in the direction of rushing the job then you are left with a new car with a growing "not finished yet" bill.

Ill be back with some # ‘* within the day.

I have a price on an actual 2001 4.6l 300hp caddy engine (low miles) that includes everything you need for 4000.00. The 2001 caddy transaxle is 1250.00. Now I am sure I can get a better price but this is a worse case scenario so it gives you an idea of what you are looking at on hardware. I personally would go with a new one. I will get a price on that very soon.

For the older Bonneville owner 92-99 reading this I can get you a older 4.6(300hp) engine for $3000.00 that is everything except the transaxle. The transaxle is a little cheaper but basically around the same price.

Still interested?
Its not that expensive but I have no idea what your budget is. I don’t need a budget just tell me if I go to far.

Speedyguy, the LT1 isnt used anymore, its the LS1 & LS6 now. 97+ Corvette'* and 98+ Camaro'*/Firebirds'* have the LS1 while the LS6 is in the Z06.

The LS1 is rated at "310HP", this is a big lie on Chevy'* part so that insurance companies dont rape people. LS1'* typically put 300HP and 300TQ to the ground stock, so its about 360 or so at the crank. The Tremec T56'* are also effecient manual tranny'*. But the 2002 Camaro'*/Firebirds have an LS1 w/ an LS6 intake and they make typically 310 to 320 to the ground stock. My friend has a 2002 Camaro Z28 and he was running trap speeds of 104mph stock (Watch out 2003 Cobra'*). Now with some modifications (ADTR modified intake and SLP Loudmouth Exhaust) he is up to 106mph. This car is also an auto. But anyways, they put the LS1 in a newer Impala, and with 300TQ to the wheels, the torque steer is insane. Hope these fun facts help you out.

Ok bear with me here first yes old-timers kicked in and I meant LS1,not LT1 but the 4.9l fwd unit puts out crazy torque. Wouldn’t a limited slip help to control the situation? And most important what transaxle did they hook it up too? The torque at the on the 4.9l is around 400 with the stage two kits. Ill get the exact number later. Obviously it was just too crazy but that draws me in like a moth to flame. I know a friend of a friend who has a 700hp 1996 impala SS. Somewhat fast too. LOL
