Default SLP Header Issue

I've posted here about the trial and tribulation I've been experiencing with a set of SLP headers on my car.

I have been experiencing a 'putting' whistle under all engine conditions except for idle. The noise is annoying and loud enough to be heard in the passenger compartment. Everyone that listened to it, believe it to be a leak around the collector or the flex pipe.

Using a stethoscope, the 'leak' was determined to be centered around the flex pipe. My exhaust Dr. figured it might be a bad flex pipe and we decided to replace it.

The flex pipe was replaced today and the noise is still there. So, now we believe the noise is internal to the collector and has to do with exhaust turbulence or acoustics due to pressures changes. With the flex pipe being thinner than the rest of the exhaust system, it would make sense why the noise can be hear there and know where else. So..not sure if anything can be done but to get a different set of headers.

SLP is not wanting to play nice, and I've sent an email to Todd at Intense to take them back for a refund.

I'm looking at a different set of headers, "The Other Guys' Exhaust Header", now.

Wish you the best of luck on these. I know you've been dealing with this for a while now. I''ve seen a few TOGs for sale. Mine are great, no problems other then dealing with the trans dipstick tube and crossover pipe clamp being so close you can't get to the bolts.

Ed McGrath had a problem with his TOG'*. He ended up cutting and rewelding them..

Recently I took a set of the SSAutochromes off a car and they look pretty nice. They are SLP knock offs. Overall I'd do it for $300 (new price)

What kind of problem Bill? I need to get another set and I certainly don't want to get another problem.

Kev, They didn't fit properly and he had to have them cut and rewelded. Similar to your SLP experience. Oddly enough, I've never had this type of fitment issues on headers.

I've helped install 3 sets of SLP'*, 2 sets of TOGs, a set or two of Pacesetters, one set of SSAutochrome and one more..unknown brand. The only issues I've run into are the known Pacesetter items and the connector on a 4T60 not being where the headers expect the connector on a 4T65 to be. but that is user issue, not header issue.
