I noticed a couple L36 Bonnes I've driven are pretty quick. They had considerable less miles than my car (50,000-70,000 less) which also was a reason they were even faster than mine. But the biggest thing I noticed was when flooring it from a stop, the L36 shifted to second at about 5400rpms. I was like :o And it jolts forward into second. I was impressed. I still would never get an L36 though.

My L36 with the foot planted on the floor goes to 5900 in first, and then 5900 in second.... he he he.... But most of all I love that intake graon at about 2800-3000 rpms...
Damn Don! That'* sweet. I would have pushed a little harder when I did it but it wasn't my car

Pete, I have ran my 91 bonneville to well lets just say it was too far into the red... As the car has no rev limiter... The Old 3800 had a 5200 Rpm redline(too easy to get there)... The peak torque was 220 ft Lbs at 2800 Rpms, the peak HP was 165 at 4400 Rpms... But for some reason my engine will run to the mark happily... The engine you have in your SSE has a 5600 Redline, peak torque is 225 ft lbs at 3200 Rpms, and peak HP is 170 at 4800 Rpms... My 3800 II engine has a 6000 Redline, 230 ft lbs or torque at 4000 Rpms, 205 HP at 5200 Rpms.... The good thing about all of these engines is that they all have a very flat torque curve, so no matter what they are always torquey.... But with my 95 Bonneville having 40 more horses than the 91, there is a big diffrence on the top end... But I love them both...
Yeah, I started to love the L36 Bonne I drove. It was so quick. And I loved the high shifting. It stinks the only reason I don't want one is because of the upper intake. I'd worry about it every day. :(

I love my L27

I have a few thoughts on this, one was already covered.

The Regal is lighter, it also has less drag, no biggie at 0 - 30 but still its lighter and then add the lower coeffecient and it will pull harder longer.

I should know the answer to this but all 1st gen 60* W bodys have 3.33 final drives. Does the 3.8'* ? I dont know but my Regal seems to wind out the gears easily. Second gen W'* I know nothing about. I know all L67 cars came with the 2.97'* or some similar #. But do the L36 W'* have a lower final drive ?

Like others mentioned the L36 was a whole new beast but no one mentioned the higher compression ratio. Thats worth alot in the pull department. still your putting 170 up against 205 and have a few hundred pounds + frontal area working against you. You need serious mods to gain 35 HP just to be = and you still have to make up for lbs, and if hes got lower final drives " fogetaboutit "

H bodys were luxury "sports?" sedans
W bodys were deffinantly made to be sporty even in base models, family cars they are not.

I should check my codes tomorrow. My only book is for 86-92 H so I dont know if I'll have rear axel code for my 91 Regal. I would think Regal GS had 3.33'* or at least lower.

Next question is what ratio does his Bonneville have compared to his brothers Regal ? I bet the Regal is lower.

As one who owns a 3800 II Bonne and a 3800 II GP/SE I can say this: The GP is more of a performance car while the Bonne is a balance between, luxury, touring, and a lil sport. I have not gotten too deep into modding the Bonne due to it not being paid off yet. I've done intake work and poped for another muffler. The other thing that limits our cars are the PCM'*. Jet had a chip that helped the older cars, (series one I beleve), but the 1998 and up cars were stuck. I understand that Digital Hourse Power will be releasing one for the newer cars this spring. I'd say that the best thing you can do is to open up your exhaust all the way, (go from your 2.25 to a 2.5 unit), from the downpipe to the tail tip. Don't know ir rockers or a cam are available for the older cars but the series II cars will have this option. You may want to see if your car can adapt the stage one CSC, (Centrifical Super Charger), from ZZP. Or maybe the turbo unit that Intense will sell this spring, we will see.
