Default Tranny cooler

I was looking around on Intense and I saw a retrofit fitting for a Tranny cooler, and I also saw the bottle of tranny flush. But no Tranny cooler, is this something I can purchase? if so where. Or would I need to fab one up?

Are they hard to install?

Thanks,

Tim

There are many trans coolers available. I personally suggest one like I have, which is viscosity controlled. In other words, while the trans fluid is cool and thicker (higher viscosity), it'* too thick to traverse back and forth, and is forced to bypass the cooler down one side. This allows your trans to warm up normally.

After warmup, when the temp of the fluid rises and the viscosity decreases, it routes the fluid through the fins, cooling it very well.

I'll warn you, the 2000 and newer install is a bit more involved simply because there'* too much junk in the way. Your best bet is to put the car up on ramps, remove the whole lower plastic shield, and go in from the bottom. Pdad did this at WCBF '05 in my driveway.

Thanks Bill, Where can I purchase one of these jewels, or do I just fab it up?

Thanks,

Tim

I'll post all the trans details soon, including that cooler. Trans shop charged me $84 for it.

I just measured it as 12x12x1.5, and it might be this one:

It is a Tru-Cool, and I just found out NASCAR runs these off the shelf.

This has a better description of how it works. It looks like fluid viscosity determines which path to take, not temp:
