Default Cone Filters

I have a 2000 SLE and i have been looking around for awhile for some parts to go from the stock air filter to a cone air filter. Prefer K&N. Does anyone have part #'* that i would need and some install instrictions that i could refer to for buying and installing these things?

Thanks

Nick

I would not go with a FWI. The filter catches too much dirt being that close to the ground and K&N filters don't filter very well. I made myself a nice CAI with a paper cone filter, but a gutted stock airbox might work just as well for you. FWIs are bad all around, and definately not worth the money some places charge.

that is NOT accurate at all..... on the way that the 00+ are set up the filter is totally enclosed

I'll have to agree with Pat on this one. A properly set up FWI should be better than a simple "CAI" with paper filter. Particularly since many "CAI'*" are not heat shielded properly and end up drawing hot underhood air, defeating some of the purpose.

We all have to be careful not to make blanket statements without backing them up with specifics and understanding the potential for different applications.

Even my FWI, which opens pretty much right to the road, doesn't pick up that much grime. It seems to be sheilded in all the right places, and its not even close to being a problem for the 2k+, as Pat said.

Ive runned my FWI since last spring , gone into winter with it and it never failed, sure theres some dust and probably water that touch it, beware that dust will go practicaly everywhere. Theres much dust in the engine bay than in the fender

Ive runned both setup and the FWI gave me 3-4* celcius lower IAT temp than a CAI.
