Default performance mods

I have a 2003 ssei and looking for after market chips/performance computers. Anyone have a suggestion? I have looked at jet products and hypertech but neither would give a clear indication of compatibility. I have done the cold air intake/ thermostat/ and boost mod so far. not interested in exhaust mods yet.

Welcome! The 2 main suppliers are Intense-Racing.com (being the leader) and ZZPerformance.com. One car to have a look at (which is basically the same as yours, just modded up pretty damn good) is Rogue'* 2000 SSEi.

These cars are very easy to mod and the aftermarket is very abundant. I wouldn't buy a PCM from anyone but Intense. With the fastest bonnevilles in the world, they pretty much know what they're doing. As far as exhaust mods go, they would be down the line of modifications. You have started out pretty right on. The next 2 things I would buy if I were you would be a modular 3.4" pulley and an Intense PCM.

thanks for your response. I'll checkout those sites. Is a pully change out easy or will I need to take into a shop? will the belt need to be changed too?

Your best bet is the Intense or DHP, which you can buy from many places, including ZZP. Although the DHP is more marketed toward GP'*, they make em for Bonnies.

I've used both brands, so if you have any questions about them, let me know.

Kncok Retard = KR

When the engine starts knocking.....The PCM pulls the timing back. And you can get KR from too much heat, and from too much boost....It'* a delicate thing.
If you're gonna do the pully, make sure you have a 180* thermostat, and make sure you have at least a cold air intake. A fenderwell intake would be the better option.

KR = Knock Retard. Knock is flame fronts colliding in the combustion chamber that is caused by pre-detonation (before the sparkplug fires). Knock can be caused by running too low of an octane fuel as well as running too high of cylinder pressures (smaller pulley will increase cylinder pressure). The computer will automatically retard the timing to reduce the knock. The power output of the engine will be reduced while the timing is retarded.

If you already have a cold air intake (CAI) or fenderwell intake (FWI) & a 180*F stat, you should be able to drop down to a 3.4" (stock is 3.8") pulley and the PCM should be done at the same time for the best results, although, the stock PCM can handle a 3.4" pulley.

Default air intake

The k&n filter rest on top of the pcm not down the fenderwell. is that a bad spot? also do I need a scan tool when I upgrade to the new pully? how about the belt is that going to be an issue too. Sorry for all the questions its a Family/ work car can't have too much down time...
ps i have a drilled 180 thermostat.

swartlkk I used to live in Rochester NY anywhere nere you?
