Looks different but probably a casting as well.

They are asking too much money for a sheet of metal with a drain plug through it. And im sure those cooling fins doesn't take rocket science to create ether. Its about $200 overpriced.

It'* not a sheet of metal. It'* a sand casting.
They would have had to make a pattern. The initial cost of making the pattern is about between $5-10,000. Then each casting after that would probably cost about $50 plus the cost to machine the gasket face and drill the holes.
My guess is it would cost them about $100 for each piece, then they would have to ensure enough sales to pay off the cost of the pattern.
A stamped steel pan should be much cheaper. Do you know what GM would charge for an OEM piece?

Would there be any benefit in this pan over adding a trans cooler for the cooling aspect?
The drain is nice..talking only cooling at the moment though.
