Cost of adding the supercharger from as SSEI to an SE?

Default Cost of adding the supercharger from as SSEI to an SE?

Ok, to be honest I'm a Ford guy and know nothing about the 3800 Series engine. This is my wife'* car. She sees what I do to my Cougar and now wants more horsepower in her car. I was wondering what I would be looking at to add the supercharger from an SSEI to her SE. Also does the SSEI have a true dual exhaust or is it just a split after the catalytic converter (basicaly will I need the SSEI headers).

I need to know what all are the parts that are different between the two cars and what'* the estimated cost of buying these parts new. (I may go find a good used engine to pull the parts from, but want to see the new parts prices first).

The exhaust is split out of the muffler, not behind the Cat. The exhaust manifolds in 98 were the same for all models. Not different for the SSEi. The SLE and SSE got the same exhaust as the SE, only the SE was single outlet. We have one car here that came from the factory as a Supercharged SE, but it came with the full blown L67 top to bottom, minus the boost gauge. The classic sleeper. Belongs to 95BonnevilleSESC.

Here'* a list of everything different between the SSEi and other models that weren't supercharged:

Forged crank/rods/pistons, heads, lower intake, supercharger, wiring harness, pcm, transmission, boost gauge, a bunch of vacuum lines, and on and on.

You can't do this. You could sell the car and use the cash it would cost plus what you get for your 98 to buy a brand new SSEi. Start thinking NOS, a Turbo, or an aftermarket centrifugal supercharger.

Or swap the entire drivetrain, wiring harness, and PCM.
They really are two different animals.

All in all, buy an SSEi if you want an Eaton Supercharger.

Me personally am going for nitrous to make up for no supercharger. There is also the turbo option being researched at the moment. Choose your path wisely my son.

Yes sc is available and comes in a few stages. The system uses the superior centrifugal style system and is much the same setup many fords use. 100 extra horses are available. Not a big deal but most people don’t want to spend the money. Currently it is not smog legal but I will be setting up a few similar units with this designation and will look into this 3.8l application. Well see. Drop me a line at

Thanks for the info. Well I was hoping for more similarities between the two engines (ex.pistons, heads, cam, ecu, injectors and supercharger). Nitrous is not an option. This is my wife'* car and I don't really see her using Nitrous, plus it is still a family car so taking up trunk space for a bottle is not an option (baby possibly in the future and I don't want a Nitrous bottle less than 12" inches from our baby). Well doing a full engine/tranny swap is a little more money than what she is willing to pay for some more hp. Thanks for the info.

Side Note: I don't forsee her being interested in Bonneville meets since she already gets dragged to my Cougar meets (I'm the Ohio NECO (New Edge Cougar Owners) web administrator and a chapter official). I pretty much plan 95% of our meets so we go to almost all of them.

Again thanks for the info. Looks like no real modding for my wife.
