Default Does Rockers and A Cam hurt gas mileage?

I was reading some threads and a guy I think dbtk2 or something like that, said "I might consider putting in a rocker set and maybe a cam but I don't want to hurt the gas mileage" He said that about a 99 GP GT that he recently brought. Is that true? I thought they were supposed to help as it helps the motor breathe and exhale more freely. I want a rocker set and a cam but if it'* going to hurt the gas mileage, forgetaboutit!

you dont do rockers and and a cam...you do one or the other.....if your doing a cam then you stick with the stock ratio (1.6) and then get a cam....if you dont plan on doing a cam then you do 1.8'* or 1.9'*...both need to have the correct supporting mods

and it is a myth that mods can hurt your gasmilage......

You CAN do rockers and a cam. It'* done quite often.

You choose higher ratio rockers if you want to further increase lift on a cam that you're happy with the duration on.

And rockers and a cam CAN hurt mileage, but not by much.

when you do the rocker/cam combo, you still keep stock ratio correct?? cause i know there are aftermarket stock ratio available

Depends on what you're after. Rockers give you lift only.
Cams give you lift and duration depending on grind.

You may like the duration on a cam, but not the lift. Rocker it. Mix and match. The preferred method is to get a cam that suits both your duration and lift needs, but the point is you CAN do both.

With more air flowing into each cylinder, you also have to deliver more fuel in order to keep the ratio correct. More power can equate to efficiency, but only if you keep your foot out of it.

A cam will generally be less efficient at idle, as it'* trying to make power when you don't need it.

thanks for the clarification Bill.....that is how i understood it too....IIRC most of the cams for the 3800 dont need the rockers because they are good in the duration and lift, and therfore you dont need to rocker

So, for everyday driving, which one do you recommend the most. I know that willwren knows a lot because look at his mod list.

I want some performance gain but i don't mind if it'* not a massive hp gain.

Which one do you highly recommend?

I personally would the rockers, with the necessary supporting mods....( if your not going to go crazy with the car) and it dosnet seem that you are....the rockers are relatively easy to install, compared to the cam

You're right Pat, I'm not going too crazy with my car. BTW, what do you mean by necessary supporting mods? I assume a PCM and a CAI among other things? Oh I forgot to ask, could you run rockers on 87 octane?

While there are hundreds of sets of INTENSE™ 1.90:1 Full Roller Rocker Arms running without an issue, some customers have expressed interest in 1.80:1 ratio rocker arms. We now carry the 1.80:1 rockers so that we may continue our commitment to providing the best quality rockers, at the best prices, in the broadest assortment of ratios available! No valve lash adjustments are required with these rocker arms, and you can use stock valve springs. However, if your motor has over 100,000 miles you should consider replacing or upgrading your valve springs.
