Ok, so I am new to the whole having a Bonneville. I used to own a civic, and i decided id let my mom drive a newer car, and id take her old one, but theres problems. First gear slips, so im sure that helps with the lag in the car, but I guess my question here is, how fast is it supposed to be, cause it feels a bit sluggish. it has 165,000 miles, so I guess i can expect some lag in it. So what can I do to make it faster and keep it running..... I have no clue about bonnevilles, so any suggestions would prolly help.... thank you

My '93 SSEi has 184,000 miles and does not feel even the slightest bit sluggish. from a dead stop, it will spin both tires for probably 15 - 20 feet, and gets up to speed very quickly. The car is all stock except an intake.

I would start with a full tunup..... plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter etc..

also check the catylic converter and see if it is pluged, kick it and see if it rattles.

any check engine light? if so, check for codes.

with that many miles, probably wouldn't be a bad idea to check the O2 sensor as well.

there are other procedures in techinfo (at the top of every page) with even more ideas.

check the trans fluid, see if it is brown, or smells burnt. someone else will chime in on that one, I don't really want to give you the wrong information as far as what to do if it is.

baby the car untill you can afford to either rebuild the trans (if necessary) or replace it.

you will love the car, way more room and power then a civic, plus, with SSEi.... you get WHINE

Hi, and welcome to the club!

It would help to know what year when it comes to diagnosing problems. So for now, here is my list of rather common problems with SSEi'* when the mileage gets up there. Transmissions tend to fail on these cars earlier than on non-supercharged cars. Mines got 177k on the original trans and it is slipping. Badly. Catalytic converters tend to get clogged and/or broken up inside. Superchargers need servicing, usually a coupler will do but sometimes bearings need attention too.

There could be a million different things wrong with the car...or just a few. You need a scantool to really tell you what is going on. Often, a real good tuneup will regain lost power...fresh plugs, wires, o2 sensor, filters...basically anything expendable that can be changed.

Im sorry, i believe its a 94 ssei.... yes, its faster then the civic obviously lol, and i dont hear much whine.... im thinking there maybe something up with the supercharger. I was lookin on ebay, and the supercharger is like $400. And as far as like the tune up goes, my dad just did one on it i believe. But ill be sure to check for the catylatic converter clog. Idk, It just seems to lag.... it could be that im not used to it, but idk lol. So ya any other suggestions.... theres alot of things i would like to do, and things like interior and what not that needs to be done... especially the audio system. Yuck!!

The whine is pretty quite when everything is stock, a simple upgrade to a Rice pipe (Cold air intake) and the whine with be very predominent

but like you have been told, the FIRST thing you wanna do it a FULL tunup

Ya almost possitive thats been done... by chance does anyone know of any website to find performance parts? Ive been looking all over and cant find one, or a real reliable one.

you won't really hear much if any whine at all with the stock airbox on. it is baffled and has several resonators inside to quiet it down. you need a smooth intake with no baffles to hear the whine

something like that (preferably with a heat shield) is what you need to hear any whine. I have the same setup, but I don't currently have any pics. I don't have a heatshield either, but I plan on making one, or rearranging my intake to draw in cooler air, instead of warm-hot air from the radiator.

well for a '94 (series one) there isnt one site to go to... if you tell use what your looking for we may beable to point you to it, many parts can be sourced from multiple site.

For a rice pipe, most (to the best on my knowlage) get them from Ebay
if/when you do get a CAI (cold air intake/rice pipe) make sure you get a K&N filter, even if you get one with the pipe
