resonance intake manifold
Anyone have any links on how to design one?
I'm trying to figure out the correct length up the intake runner a resonance valve and pocket should go on our engines.
Of course there is all kinds of variables like runner length, runner cross setional area, all kinds of properties of the valves, when the resonance will occur...... blah blah.
Any info on how to design one would be awesome.
I googled the crap out of it and only found info on which cars it'* in and how it works.

I'm sorry I can not help you with this, but what does a resonance valve do??? Any performance benefit? I think Willwren would be a good person to start asking questions if you were to start designing something.

I'm not the best at expaining things sometimes, but here are a few links:
http://www.mazda6tech.com/index.php?...ask=view&id=14
look like half way down.

If you look at the picture at the bottom of the porsche page, you can see pulses generated by the intake valve closing. these pulses vary with rpm. But you can harness thier power by having a place in the intake runner for them to bounce back off and charge the air going into the cylinder. There is a valve that ususally opens to give the charge a place to bounce off. The placement of this point and the rpm at which the valve opens is critical to make this actually work.
Here are some super simple pics i did in paint:
The blue is the air and the red is a pulse conducted by the air, not the air moving back up.
Here is the air traveling it'* normal path:
Here is the air being charged by the pulses generated by the closing valve
Hope that helps ya out,
Nissan has two variations of this that i know about that are on maximas overseas.

Since the closing of the valves creates backpressure on the intake couldnt a small path be created at an angle that would allow the back pressure to be pushed threw and into the next closest opening cylinder
I have a questionvI know the firing order is 1-6-5-4-3-2 on the S2 now is there two only cylinders that are open at a time correct or is there overlap in the cylinders also is the numbering of the cylinders side to side like this
1:2
3:4
5:6
or is it numbered going down
I will need to think about how to get it to work corectly and dose any one have a diagram or the original intake manifold

That'* a pretty good idea.
But that would add to the complexity of actually getting it to work in my opinion. There would probably have to be major obstructions in the intake runners to charge another cylinder with another valve pulse. And the window of opportunity of actually getting the correct frequency to charge another cylinder at x length with the appropriate rpm seems to be narrower to me.
Awesome idea but seems even harder.
With one valve making one frequency at one rpm range and being able to be harnessed at one length, this information can be applied to the other 5 cylinders without worrying about the firing order.

Keep googling man, I found all the info on the lengths needed, I got stuck on how to move the plenum and money. Of course I was playing with Variable Length Intake Runners.
