Default idle speed

I can tell you from experience, if you hae a k&n filter that is close to the throttle body it will suck the oil out of the filter and coat your mass air. I had mine clamped right to the throttle body, ran really good for a while, then the idle started to go a little crazy. I pulled the throttle body off and found the oil coating the MAF. I cleaned it and put the stock air box back, now runs better. It still seems to suffer from lack of air flow at higher rpm'*.

sounds like you might need to replace your MAF sensor there. Have you double checked to make sure any more oil didnt get on the sensor after you cleaned it?

Confirmation, yes, but with limits. I went through this whole routine last year, too, and ended up putting my screen back in also. This is something we've known for quite some time. The airbox mods article in Techinfo talks about it. The exception is an aftermarket total-replacement mandrel bent pipe and cone filter. It will run fine without a MAF screen.
