Well has yor car had a basic tune up lately? Like plugs, wires, air & fuel filter, O2 Sensor? If so it just may be your gearing which is keeping you from breaking them loose easily. You can gut your air box & drop a K&N in there. But you should take a look over @ Intense-Racing for all kinds of performance stuff.

Please put your year and model in your signature so in the future people know what car you have.

Maybe a 180 degree thermostat will help you along with some other things like ported exhaust manifolds, high flow cat. Sounds like you have some granny gearing and thats whats holding you back. Just don't be trying turn burns or you will end up blowing outd your diff..

As for the signature look all the way towards the top of thr page and you'll see in red letters "Profile" click on that and fill out the info as you please.

Where are you located? There are club members all over the United States and odds are there is a member near you willing to take a look at your car to help diagnose.
Another thing you might want to do is ditch the Bosch plugs -they are known here on Bonneville Club to be VERY problematic in the 3800 engines. A more desirable plug is a NGK V-Power TR55 gapped at .058" with a cold air intake, 180* thermostat, and a high flow catalytic converter. You might also consider taking your throttle body off and cleaning it, and if you can afford day of down time and about $50-100 you should be able to find a machine shop that can port/polish the the throttle body.
I also would suggest going to a local Automotive parts store or small car dealer/repair shop and ask them to scan your car for codes or see if they can scan in real time while driving the car.
With your 1998 SLE you should have the M15 trans which has the 3.05 gear ratio, meaning you should have no problem turning them over. Just be sure not to hurt your transmission -only do burn outs with the wheels pointed straight ahead.
