Default Series 1 Aftermarket

I was thinking about going with either rockers or a cam for my Bonneville. The cam is cheaper and will yield better results than rockers. So I'd probably want to go that route. What all will I need when replacing the cam? Do I need roller rockers too? What about supporting mods? I was thinking about the 62 cam from seriesoneperformance.com but am unsure what all I need to go with it and how much its going to run. Thanks.

Rockers would complement the cam greatly. Definantly do the springs when you do the cam. I would recomend push rods too.

Check with DrJay at www.seriesoneperformance.com . He would be the best source for the info you need

The springs are recommended with the cams mainly because they should really be replaced when you look at adding performance to the engine through valvetrain modification. If they're old and worn, stock springs can really cost you a lot. If you're trying to save a buck you can always have them checked for proper spring load, but I've always been one of the 'better safe than sorry' bunch.

The rockers are generally for those with more money than time and/or mechanical ability. A proper cam will make it unnecessary to add a set of rockers into the mix. Rockers are just another way of changing the lift and duration without cracking the engine open.

From your sig, you shouldn't have any issues running the 62 camshaft. It'll probably help with that 2.1" pulley anyway.

I've always been a go fast on a budget kind of guy which is why I like nitrous so much. Either a cam or rockers will help reduce KR and hopefully enable me to run the 2.1" pulley all the time and not just on race day. I'm glad to hear I can run the 62 without any extra modifications, though I may end up with a set of PEMs in the future since they're fairly inexpensive as an added benefit. Would I benefit from a set of high ratio rockers with the 62 cam? Or will it provide enough lift as it is? I'd still like to run nitrous, though I'll probably go with a smaller shot now that I'm making the power elsewhere. Is the 62 a nitrous friendly cam?

Instead of mixing the rockers with the cam I would simply go with the '63 cam. You'd get almost the exact same lift as a '62 with rockers. The only reason to mix the two is if you like the timing and duration figures of the '62 but want the lift of the '63. Even then I could always custom grind you a cam to match those specs.

If a cam and rockers are in your budget I'd honestly just go with the '63 and spend the rest on the heads. You'll probably get a lot more flow and would make a perfect add-on while you have the engine apart.

Either cam will be fine with nitrous. If you do the combo above with nitrous my only fear would be your transmission.

I don't want the car to be too radical though, which is why I was considering the 62. A little lope is good, but nothing too extreme. If I can do that with the 63 and eliminate the need for rockers, then that will be the route I take. I understand what lift and duration mean and how they relate to flow, but I don't know what to look for on a Forced Induction application.

I've already pushed the limits of the transmission with the nitrous earlier this year and it'* not showing any sign of wear as of yet, but only time will tell. It was rebuilt a little over a year ago to what I was told "better than stock." But if I blow it up I have an excuse to throw in a shift kit along with a REAL rebuild.
