Default My new custom Intake

Just finished installing a custom intake for my 94 SE. I bought an aluminum intake tube for a 96-00 Civic EX, ceramic coated it and painted it to match my upper manifold. I had to shorten it about 3". I fitted a 6" K&N cone filter to it and fabricated a heat shield using 8" furnace ducting. You can check out the pict at http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/steven...&.dnm=78b7.jpg
Took me about an hour and a half.

Hey I was told not to paint the intake manifold but that sh*t looks bloody awesome! Does it get hot at all or is she runnin just fine? My upper manifold never gets hot anyways so I dont see why you couldnt paint it. BTW where do you get ceramic paint, Im thinkin of goin all blue on mine or maybe black?

Default Paint

Theoretically, the paint on the manifold might cause it to release less heat. I don't think it'* made a difference at all. I used ceramic header paint on the intake tube (for insulation purposes) and then painted over it with the same paint I used on my manifold. I should have sanded or prepped the tube better as the paint doesn't seem to be adhering to it very well.
Good luck with yours.

Do you get any problems with water spots on your intake? I see everyone with nice shiny intakes and mine is like that when I install it but the next time I look under the hood its all dirty and spotted. Maybe its just my coolant spraying with my leak and all.

Nice intake! I think I like the idea of using furnace ducting. Very innovative. How do you like the new sound?

Default intake

I don't have a problem with water spotting but I don't have any leaks (now). As far as the sound goes, it is louder but the heat shield works a little like a muffler. It does have a deep, full sound to it when it'* wide open.

if you want to make it less loud, give me a pic of the inside of that tube, I bet you could make a pretty good non-restricting muffler for it.

Has anyone come up with the idea of an intercooled intake tube? Like those borla exhaust tips but on an intake. Ya know a tub inside a tube with little rib things holding it together, that could be a great idea and I know it would help on my car because my intake gets hot to the touch after a while of driving.
