They typically are electric with three wires. A +12VDC (ignition circuit, on with key in Run), a engine sensor ground, and a signal wire from the O2 sensor.

You can connect all of them at the ECM. The connections should be soldered in order to get a good read from the O2 sensor.

The ignition comes from the Black connector block (cavity A6, Pink wire with a black stripe)

O2 Signal can be connected at the yellow connector block (cavity D2, should have Black with Purple stripe wire.)

O2 Ground can be connected at the yellow connector block (cavity D3, should have a tan wire in it.)

This will put your A/F gauge in parallel to the ECM'* own O2 sensor connections...you will see the same values the ECM is seeing.

Last caveat to all this: GM does not use a wide-band O2 sensor. The O2 sensor also lags behind the engine and is erratic at less than WOT, go it'* usefulness is for checking rich/lean when you stomp on the throttle and hold it down.

Sortta...the two connector blocks I'm refering to are the plugs going into the car'* computer (behind the glovebox.)

When you take the trim off, you can see the computer (ECM) tucked up in the right corner of the dash (silver aluminum box with three large harness connectors going into it...and a lot of wires.) One of the connectors is black plastic, another is yellow plastic. That'* the easiest places to tap into the car'* wiring to read the stock O2 sensor.

Here a current thread on dropping the ecm to goof around with it. The pictures of the ecm and the dash are on the first page

Here'* the ECM wiring, showing where to look for the wires you need:

Meters: Summit Racing equipment has a pretty inexpensive round digital meter (looks like an old Cyberdyne gauge). K&N also sells a square one. Autometer sells an analog round gauge that works pretty well and is a little easier to read at a glance.

if you plan on using that cheapo a/f gauge to tune you are wasting your time and money
save up for the wide band its worth the 300 in the long run

with all the modded cars ive owned ive never had an issue with the cheap ones and i felt they were very accurate, being on a tight tight budget stinks id rather spend the extra money on something else
