Default PCM related (CASE learn)

I got a PCM from Intense and now need a CASE learn. I thought I had a place I could do it at but apparently that didn't work out :( . The crappy part is that I figured this out AFTER I put the Intense PCM AND started the car so it'* not like I could just swap my old one back in. My fault I know, I messed up, don't give me crap about it . One thing I did notice is that I didn't need a security learn and the car started right up with no issue and purred like a kitten. I've only let it run at idle for about 3 minutes, I haven't driven around or anything. I didn't even get a check engine light or anything.

I've been calling some places around here and NONE of them seem to have a damn clue what a CASE learn or Crankshaft Position System Variation Learning Procedure is. I ask if they can do it and EVERY time there was a 10 second pause followed by an "uhhh". Some places didn't even have a Tech II, hell my high school auto class had a damn Tech II. Even the dealership dude sounded dumbfounded, even after I explained the procedure to him. Even after I explained that it literally takes minutes, if not seconds to perform he asked me if I wanted to drop the vehicle off to have them do it . How do I even reply to such a retarded question like that?! This is downright frightening considering that I see A LOT of other 3800 Series 2 vehicles around my area, you'd think some of these shops/dealerships would have run into this by now :?

Anyway I can go get raped at the dealership for $120 on Friday if I want, I set up an appointment though I may just cancel it with them. Another thing is that the dealership guy said I may need to bring my old PCM in to extract some info :? (I told him I replaced my PCM for driveabilty issues). Should I just tell them straight up I got a tuned PCM and I just want the CASE learn only?

All that said could I still drive my car to work? I work only a few miles away and it'* basically 35-45 MPH the whole way. I've gotta work tonight and tomorrow night before I can get the CASE learn done at the dealership. Exactly how bad is it to run a car without the CASE learn done first?

Experience seems to be showing that unless your car is idling and running like total crapola with the new PCM, a CASE learn may not be needed.

If you decide to get one anyway, I would advise you to be totally upfront about the fact that you have a tuned, aftermarket PCM and that you want CASE learn only...not a total PCM overwrite. Many have been screwed by dealerships over this detail. I would advise calling around every dealership in your area and talking directly to service managers until you get one who fully understands what you are trying to do...and then schedule your appointment for when that guy will be there.

Finally, I would advise you to contact the vendor who sold you the PCM and make sure that if a dealer wipes your PCM, the vendor will re-write it for you again. I'm sure they get that all the time

you know if I could avoid the CASE learn I would love to do just that. It did start up right away, idled smoothly (maybe even more smooth than before if my mind isn't fooling me), and I got no Check Engine Light.

I'll go grandma foot it around town for a bit and see how it runs. But I'd like some advice from others as well before I just say screw it with the CASE learn. $120 for a 2 minute procedure just absolutely disgusts me.

Also on a side note couldn't someone with a tuner do a CASE learn for me? And if so are there any with a tuner around the Twin Cities area in Minnesota? I'd be willing to pay, just not this $120 nonsense.

I just drove it around about 12 miles averaging about 40-45 MPH. I kept it under 3K RPMs as much as possible as well, though a few times it got up to like 3200 before it would shift. I'm fairly convinced my idle is smoother than before too. Still got no check engine light, the car ran smooth, no funny noises, no sputtering or odd idle.

I wouldn't worry that much, its not that big of a deal unless you start beating the ever living **** outta your engine.

Drive "casual" until you find someone who can perform the case learn for you.
