Default Whats a good performance air filter?

im lookin to buy a performance air filter and of course i checked out the almighty K&N but they were like $55.which is alot for a kid with very little income at all.and i also so noticed that a K&N gives only a 4% increase in HP at max. which would be like 8HP in my car at redline.would i even be able to notice that? or is there an air filter better than K&N? i dont know too much about the mechanics of cars but i know i want mine to haul
thanks

Well I have a K&N and the hp gain is very slight. If there is any. I can't notice, but it'* a better filter then the paper one, and it allows for a better air flow.

I'd say K&N is one of the best, if not the best. While a stock replacement doesn't add too much hp, a completely different intake is better, with a K&N cone, but of course that costs more $$, unless you can make it yourself. I actually paid like $72 for my K&N at Pepboys and for the performance gain it'* not worth that. You could probably be creative and make your own intake for less than $100, I think.

Since you are on limited budget... I would say but the K&N element and then gut your air box.. that should give you some performance that you can feel. Its not a differance like night and day its more like dusk and night.

i dont think id wanna try and make my own.i love this car and the last thing i wanna do is compromise it.my kind of upgrades are like "take off the stock one and put this on" and "replace this with this" and simple stuff like that.oh well even if i dont do ne thing to this car i still like it just the way it is.
thanks
