Oil and Filter
Ok... I know the majority of people on here use Mobil 1, but lets face it I'm poor and cant afford it. And I know alot of ppl don't like fram oil filters. But here'* what I got today. I got Valvoline 10w40 MaxLife non-synthetic. And a Fram Double Guard. Does anybody on here run those together. Do you notice anything different.

Both are some big names, but not too sure. I think they are allright for regular use. Just dont use Bosch Oil Filters! I used one before and DAMN! That sucker was a biatch to get off. Had to stick a knife through it to relieve the pressure, then I could finally unscrew it.

1. Fram sucks

2. If you have a high mileage car, stick to regular oil, as synthetic might aggrivate a leak.

I run 10-40 in both my vehicles in the summer, just because it quiets down some of the noise in the engine and seems to make it run a lil smother....Then in the winter I run what'* recommended and depending on how cold the winter is supposed to get I sometimes run 5-30. My truck takes 5-30 but I run 10-30 year round. Doesn't seem to hurt anything but the oil pressure'* really high for a lil bit.

My car doesn't leak oil, but I'm still not going to buy synthetic. I bought oil for engines over 75,000 miles so that will surfice for me. Its what I put in last time, and it runs fine.

I have personally saw SEVERAL engines dissassembled at my Dad'* shop that ran synthetic oil only. Synthetic oil ... like on the commercial .. doesn't burn. Try it sometime.
The walls of the cylinders are coated with a thin coat of oil by the oil ring each time
the piston goes up and down. If it doesn't burn, it turns into a syrup like goo.
This tends to clog up the oil ring. I've saw it several ( like 8 or 10 ) times. Now, other factors could be involved I don't know. I do know the 'vettes that use synthetic oil as recommended by GM had special oil rings. Anyway, just my 2 cents.
I think Synthetic is great when an engine is designed to use it. I think it'* bad for the long term when it isn't. Consumer Reports has published proof of this before.
