Is a ECU tune from Wester's Garage any good for 1994?

Default Is a ECU tune from Wester'* Garage any good for 1994?

Their website has a lot of great information, and Lyndon Wester has been very knowledgeable and helpful in answering my questions.

Has anybody used their tune? Is it solid long term? What kind of results?

Thanks! Cheers!

Never heard of them, and they don't support your year. In fact, they wouldn't know what to do with a PCM that uses an eprom like your car.

www.gmtuners.com or a DIY kit is the only way. But tuning for the sake of tuning won't benefit you much until you really start adding power.

Moving to the proper section. Please only post mechanical problems in 92-99.

willwren,

I have had some email correspondence with Lyndon Westers, where I gave him the service number and the four letter code that ID the ECU. He says it'* a go for him.

From what I can tell, the parformance improvements are in timing control, slightly improved mixture control, and better shifting/TC lockup logic.

In the future I plan to install a cold air intake with K&N and a scoop for modest ram air effects, and hopefully throw in some 1.6-1.7:1 rockers. Westers will retune to take advantage of those improvements as well.

More power to you, but in my humble opinion, I wouldn't spend money on the tune until AFTER your upgrades.

You already have 1.6:1 rockers, and you won't get a ram-air effect until you're above 125mph.

Those are all good points.

I'm curious about Westers since I've noticed the Silverado crowd (and other truck lovers) swear by them.

Potential improvements for towing performance and MPG is what I'm after. This includes lower temps for turning on cooling fans (towing) and mid-throttle timing/mixture tuning (MPG for the kind of driving I do).

You're right--I was thinking of my old Cougar'* rockers. Have you heard of the Power Brick rear header from somebody online?

The ram-air would give me a boost when climbing grades on the freeway with a trailer in August--which is what I plan to do! When you are WOT any +induction is +HP.

The ram-air effect won't do squat for you. Your intake is already pulling air in at a greater velocity than the vehicle is travelling. It'* wasted time and effort.

If you want a PCM for a 94/95, go to www.gmtuners.com
They have the EXPERIENCE of hundreds of GM V6 PCM'* and know your motor well.

Power brick rear header? You mean PowerLOG FRONT manifold? That'* for the NEXT generation motor, not yours. And frankly, you don't need it. You have the best flowing GM FWD V6 exhaust manifolds ever created.
