Default Turbocharging a bonneville?

I was wondering if anybody knows somebody who has turbocharged the 3800 engine on a bonneville. I have been thinking about it recently and I am going to do some research to see what the engine can handle. I plan on putting it in a 92 SE this summer if it is at all possible.

How'* it going. I am the Hector man. I don't believe a Bonneville person has done it. A few Grand Prix GT guys have done it. Here is one pic of a guy who has it on his car but emailed me for information and such. He gave me a few specs but not everything.

Turbo L36

How many miles on your 92 SE? And I dont know of anyone who has turbocharged a Series I engine. I only know of Series II ones because they flow better and will make more power as well as the tranmission withstanding a bit more power. How much power you looking to make?

My car has 130000 miles on it. It'* probably not worth a lot of trouble to turbo it since its getting old, but what the hell. I have nothing to do and this sounds like a good project. I'm not sure how much power I want to give it yet, I guess as much as it can handle without destroying the car. I have been talking to friends and they think it is possible to put in a turbo for around $300, thats junkyard turbos though. Right now I just want to find a turbo that will work with the engine well. I still don't know enough about the power boost it will give or how much boost the engine can handle. It seems to me that the 3800 is a well built engine and the transmission should be able to handle the power.

Before you go farther, do your research. And I could get you a rebuilt junkayrd turbo for $200.... $300 is overkill, sort of. It would cost at least about $3000 in parts retail if you did it yourself properly. Suggestions of turbo sizes I can do. You can do a T3 of the highest size but there are drawbacks. It will only make up to 325HP max (12psi max) but will spool approx by 2500 (basically step on gas its spooled). You can also do a TO4E of the smallest trim which would spool at about 3000 rpm and produce up to about 350-400HP (12-15psi). The Series I engine is strong but with that many miles, I would suggest rebuilding the engine but your transmission will not survive. The 4T60E will not take for long that abuse and the torque a turbo will produce. Plus the heads are not the greatest, it'* not worth it. And your friends need to do their turbo research as well.

Bring it on, I'm falling way behind my two car buddies. One has a Porshe 928S and the other just got a supercharger for his Camry, needless to say, I'm getting dusted I'm sure I can find enuff things here to sell to help cover the costs :P

I have 100,000 miles on my car and its a 99. Lots of highway miles on mine. Future R&D or current on my car.

Ported and Polished heads w/ 3/4 angle valve job, stainless steel valves, titanium retainers and locks.

Upper sheetmetal intake manifold w/ fogger nitrous injection.

Tuned downpipe meant for 3.8L'*.

Cat-back exhaust system (design and such).

and much more....
