CAI but still 20* above ambient?
My old intake was giving me 150* temps so i decided to change it around a little:
Some rubber and aluminum to seal averything up:
BUT i'm still getting 20*+ degrees above ambient. wtf?
I mean i've got rubber sealing everything off including from the heat shield to the hood plus insulation & aluminum tape everywhere.
Whats the deal?

I made my CAI so that the IAT would be inside the heatshield. You dont want that sensor to be hotter than the air that its supposed to read!
You dont need the extender, you could just add on to your heat shield so its a little larger and fits the IAT inside.

I found that even moving the IAT into the shrouded area was not enough. I needed to duct (ram) outside air into that area.
Doing that brought the temp to ambient. Without it, it was 20* higher due to radiant heat gain.
Here you can see my IAT sensor at the end of the filter and the ram duct exiting inside the shrouded area.
Doing that brought the temp to ambient. Without it, it was 20* higher due to radiant heat gain.

And do you really think it makes that much of a difference if i put the sensor in the filter?
I know that the element in the AIT sensor sees more resistance when it'* colder. But if the wires and sensor (not the element in the sensor) are heated, like they may be right next to the heat sheild, it will create more resistance. This would tell the computer it'* actually colder.
But there could be significant heat transfer to the element....
It could really go either way.
Hmmmm. Maybe the radiating heat from the sheild is heating up everything around where the pipe goes through the sheild............(*edit* crap jwikoff99 said this )(So, yeah that could be it)

I guess theres nothing left to do other than try it out in the filter...

It'* the stop and go traffic that'* really killing me.
I've got a ram air duct under my drivers light and all the metal removed between the light and the filter. But. After a semester of fluids i can't see much flow getting to that ram air duct.
I'm probably going to move my charcoal canister and route dryer ducting from the hole above and in front of my fog light up through the charcoal canister hole to the filter. Might help a little. I would also like to header wrap the crossover on the tog'* but i'm a little weary since they already have minor rust....

Right past that hole is outside air behind the grill.
Are you thinking radiating heat from the side of the radiator?
