So...

I gutted my airbox out yesterday, and ran some seafoam through it. Gutting the air box helped substantially with my K&N Air Filter, and it made it sound badass. However, it raised two questions.

First question... when I ran Seafoam through my car, I ran a half bottle through real quick, actually too much, RPMs bogged below 1k, so I just held it open so I didn't hydrolock. It recovered. However... there was never any smoke. Why? Every other car I've done this to looked like it was in some serious trouble, when in reality the seafoam was just burning off. There was a very slight cloud of blue smoke and a bad smell (like burning oil), but that was it. I know it went through, because it runs noticeably smoother and there was still the smell.

Second question... after gutting my airbox, my car now sounds turbo charged at quarter-half throttle lol. It sound badass when you stomp on it, but if you're just casually driving you can hear a whistle building up like a turbo spooling. I can change the pitch with throttle position, but pitch changes as vacuum changes. Think it could be just that mesh filter in there? It sounds really cool... but I don't know whether to think it'* a vacuum leak, or a cool sound coming from intake lol. It used to only make a whistle real fast if I jumped on the throttle real fast and let off, almost like a squeek. Think just because I gutted and swiss cheesed my airbox, more air is able to go through, resulting in a constant whistle? Thanks!

Did you let it sit with the seafoam in the engine?

Nope... ran it through until it was gone. Waited until I couldn't smell/see slight blue smoke coming out of exhaust. Then I took it for a throttle happy ride around the block.

vague memory tells me you're supposed to start the car, suck half the can in, shut the car off. Let it sit 5 or 10 minutes, then start the car and suck the rest of the can through. It will sputter and try to die. Try to keep it running. I also looked, when sucking in the seafoam, you are to only let the vac hose barely touch the surface, so that it pulls air as well as the cleaner.

i think you might have a vaccum leak, i gutted my airbox 2 months ago, and i've never heard a whistle, just a loud sucking sound, which is normal

Maybe you clogged up the exhaust with carbon bits causing the higher pitched noise?

It idles just fine though... that'* why I don't understand. I'll get somebody to jounce on the throttle while im lookin around under the hood. If it'* not a vacuum leak then I'm just going to leave it go. It sounds pretty cool actually lol. Kinda of poserish... however.

Yeah, you gotta shut it off for about 15 mins after the first half can and then run the rest through, you WILL get smoke. Also make sure the car is at full operating temp. It likes to sit in there for that 15 mins and steam away all the carbon in the cylinders.

spray carb cleaner around all of the vac lines and the intake. If it bogs or races, you've found a potential vac leak.

if you got a scan tool check your fuel trims to, if their high, then its probably got a vacuum leak
