Exclamation Oh my GOD!!!!!!

Here is a head scratcher for you. My wife just drove about 35 miles to another town and started on her way back when something made a large popping sound and jerked her steering wheel. Then it did it again and almost through her in the ditch... She continued slowly home for another 29 miles and the steering was very stiff. she made it all the way home and turned into the driveway and parked in her usual spot. Here is where it gets wierd. when I got home from work I went out and checked it out and I found that all of the mounts for the frame that attach to the bottom of the firewall had broken off and the only thing holding the motor up was the firewall. I went to put it in the garage on the other side and when I went to turn there was no steering!!!! the steering had pulled apart because the rack is attached to the frame that was almost on the ground!!!! I dont have any idea what helped her get home but I am going to church to thank GOD for letting her make it home safely!!!! Has anyone else had this happen???? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I have the same car. I was in a wreck 1 year ago and the front of my car got totaled. My sub frame engine cradle mounts were blown out just like yours. I had to get a used engine cradle and new mounts to get it put back together. After my wreck my car was just like yours is now my front end rocked back and forth every which way. It was scary to say the least. I wish you the best of luck on getting her fixed if you are going that route.

I will try to get pics on soon.. I remember finding a washer in the garage and not knowing what it was for... Now I know that it was from this car.. THe inner mounting bolts on the rear of the frame I think either rusted through or ripped clean off. Leaving just the rubber mounts to hold.. Only a matter of time till disaster. Please check your cars for this I think it could be crucial.. Am from ND but car was originally a MN car so is starting to rust a little. I think this is the Problem but not 100% sure.

Very common for the subframe bushings/washers to rust over the years and fall apart. This typically leaves the bolts in the body and the subframe slips down over them.

Dan and Nighthwk12 should have the part numbers available if that'* the case. They have both recently been talking about replacing their subframe bushings.

I've also seen subframes rust a bit, although it'* more uncommon.
