Default Exhaust Question : Headers & Exhaust

Hello all ..... this is my first post so I thought I'd say hi.

I know this isn't bonneville specific, and I appolagize, I've just had such little luck looking for help that I figured I'd try here too ..... it'* L27 related.

Quick intro : My brother has a 1994 Buick Regal Custom with an L27 motor mated to a 4T60-E tranny. He'* looking to increase the car'* performance, but we're having a really hard time finding any bolt on parts for the L27 motor.

First question - Are there any companies that produce headers for the L27?

Second question - What piping diameter is best for the L27? I would imagine 2.5, but I figured I'd ask those who have modded this motor before.

Third (and final) question - Are there any L27 performance related web sites out there?

TIA for the help.

Aside from running laughing gas, Jason (BonneMeMN) is your man. Wait for him to pipe in here.

Oh, and welcome to the club.

Thanks for the comment. Hopefully he'll see this thread and post.

I've used nitrous in the past, and if it dosn't appear cost effective to go with forced induction, we'll have no trouble hooking up some juice.

He reads all posts and says something whenever possible. That'* how the little critter has over 6500 posts.

A 3" metal pipe, with huge K&N filter, and opening up the exhaust will go a long ways. You're exhaust will most likely be either 2.25 or 2.5" piping, changin out the muffler may help you a lot.

No one makes series I headers as of this moment, but you can always get custom headers, or see what'* coming up fro series I. However headers will not do terribly much, since we have port matched tubular manifolds from the factory. Many things are on tap soon, higher ratio rockers (not by much) are coming available, and you can alway sdo custom work like P&P, etc.

Series 1 cams (4 to choose from) as well as 4 for the 89-91 crowd may be coming as well. Heads also maybe. I think the next 30 days will probably tell alot, but other than that, the typical intake/exhaust like Jason mentioned is the way to go for now.

The L27 is a torquey little animal, delivering that torque WAY down low where you want it. It'* pretty simple to wake it up with the basics. It'll respond very well to the attention.

We put a cone filter on tonight. It sounds a lot better and he said that he thinks he felt a slight increase in power, but he may have just been excited to do his first mod. I'll probably fart around and make a heat box for it later this week - lol, when I get board I see what I can make for my car, might as well try it with my bro'* car too.
In two weeks we'll be looking into putting a new exhaust on. We'll probably go with 2.5in mandrel bent piping, but not sure what kind of muffler to go with. Thinking about something flowmaster to get that big throaty sound, but not completely sure yet ...... suggestions are more then welcome. Out of curiosity - what piping size is everyone on here running? I just figured with the 3.8L displacement that it would need at least a 2.5in. Heck my SE-R runs a 2.5in with cams and bolt ons.
BonneMeMN - do you have any information regarding what all is needed to add a series 1 supercharger to the L27? How much it might cost?
We might end up going with some nitrous, but he'd love a supercharger if at all possible. Just wondering where to get all the parts I'd need and how much it would all cost.

That sounds cool. I'll make sure that I keep an eye out for the next month or so to see what comes out for this motor.
I'm a little hesitant to delve into cams for this car, since I've never worked with a push rod car before. Kind of scary.

Very few cars have gotten bigger exhaust pipe, they're all supercharged as well. You'll loose more TQ compared to the HP gain you'll get out of anything bigger. It'* all mandrel bent stainless in Bonnies, so i assume yours is similar.

I'm running the N10 optioned exhaust,2.5" with no resonator, and a stock cat, with a flowmaster muffler. You sound interested in it, now it'* broken in Though.
