You're talking about the gearing?

Short answer:
Yes, shorter gearing gives low end and takes away top end.

Long-winded answer:
Shorter gears would synergize nicely with all your other mods (rockers or cam, headers, etc.), because these things all push your torque peak to a higher rpm...and the shorter gears will get you into your powerband and up to that peak faster. That translates to better quickness off the line, or from a dig.

Now, all else equal, your top speed will be lower because of the gearing, and your "back half" in the quarter mile will take longer than it would with taller gearing...but your "front half" would more than make up for the difference.

In short, these other mods all help most in the top-end; the gearing is meant to give you something for the low-end, also.

I have done the gear swap on my 95 SE when the tranny was rebuilt. Also added a TransGO JR shift kit, H-D diff and internals, and a LSD inside the diff. The built tranny made the biggest "seat of the pants" improvement so far. A LOT better launches and it pulls harder. My mpg did suffer though

OK agrazela, PM on its way.

So let me recap... Best headers are from SLP, best shift kit is the one
that Intense sells. & Magnaflow for the cat.

The shift kit can be made for about $2 on your own. I have the measurements you would need and the only other thing you need is a new filter. I think the headers are a matter of opinion. SLPs have a pretty small crossover pipe but are easy to install. TOGs are a little nicer in my opinion but quite expensive even used. Pacesetters get a bad rep, but are fine for the price when coated. The magnaflow cat is quite nice and has a pretty good price too. Rockers would make a nice upgrade too. I would think you would want to look into a ported HV TB. I don't know what the research is on it for the N/A but it seems to me that you would get more air in with one and get a nice HP increase.

Sorry about the double posting. Is just that this thing came up where my engine started blowing smoke rings out the oil cap & level. & I guess I got a little desperate.

You know Ive been working on this car for more than a year & is not ready yet. I just want to be able to enjoy the car allready.

& again thanks for all the good info.

Alex, cut and paste your question and my reply from the other topic so everyone knows what'* up.

Others that have done the work can post their experiences also that way.
