You're talking about the gearing?
Yes, shorter gearing gives low end and takes away top end.
Shorter gears would synergize nicely with all your other mods (rockers or cam, headers, etc.), because these things all push your torque peak to a higher rpm...and the shorter gears will get you into your powerband and up to that peak faster. That translates to better quickness off the line, or from a dig.
Now, all else equal
, your top speed will be lower because of the gearing, and your "back half" in the quarter mile will take longer than it would with taller gearing...but your "front half" would more
than make up for the difference.
In short, these other mods all help most in the top-end; the gearing is meant to give you something for the low-end, also.
