What is the point of a limited slip differential?
And how are they able to sit in one spot and burn the tires?

it directs equal power to both wheels same as the stock diff....except if one has less traction both weels still spin unlike the stock diff where the wheel with less traction only spins with the stock diff. This creats less wear on the the pinion shaft

Shadowfax, I can sit in the burnout box all day long roasting both tires without an LSD. The LSD is primarily for turning and cornering. Not for straight line (talking FWD here).
All of our cars can lay twins if the diff is healthy. But you have to know when to back off if only one spins. At the dragstrip during WCBF, we have spotters on both sides of the track looking for two-wheel burns on each car. Most of the time, they're not needed.
An LSD is no gaurantee of two wheel burns, either. I've seen several one-wheel wonders from FWD LSD'*.

You have to lock your parking brake.
Make sure that you disconnect the electrical connector that is connected to the parking brake actuator under the dash. Also have to disconnect your wheel speed sensors. If you don't, the parking brake will disconnect automatically and if the wheel speed on one or two wheels is detected the PCM will cut fuel and timing.
It helps to get the tires wet going thru the burn out box.
Then just nail it and spin thru 1st 50 mph, 2nd 95 mph and it looked like Travis went into 3rd gear so the tires will spin up to about 120 mph.
That reminds me to tighten up my rear parking brake cable so it grabs nice and tight. I was loose last year and the parking brakes wouldn't hold very well.

Wow that'* quite a bit.
Aside from your tires, can that do any damage to your car?
Nonetheless, I don't think I'll be doing it, I don't necessarily have a set of tires to bald
So what can an LSD do for your car that the stock differential can't?
