Default Best Altenator to Upgrade to for higher output ?

What is the best Altenator to Upgrade to for the 92 SSEi'* ?

Anyone know of a Direct fit Altenator that has higher output than the factory ?

I would prefer to stay with a good brand like AC Delco etc. I don't know if I trust the aftermarket like Lighting Audio etc.

I would like to install a deafing system in the near future and I would like to charge a second battery in the trunk, to run the system off (2 batteries off of the same Altenator).

Thanks in Advance,
Dutch

www.mralternator.com , bar none.

We have about half a dozen of them running here. I have a 160amp in the Zilla, and it'* a great unit. 2 years of flawless service so far. He'll build you a 200 amp as well.

These are built from 94 and newer 140amp Bonneville alternators. Beefed up bearings, smaller pulley, beefed up diodes in the rectifier bridge.

Or if you don't want a 160/200 amp, just go for a 94 or newer 140amp SSEi alt.

While i agree with Willwren on the Mr alternator is a good option i also highly recommend going to Advance and getting a AC delco 140 amp. It comes with a lifetime warrenty, and is cheaper

your looking at $225 for a 160 amp from Mr alt and about $120 for a 140 amp from Advance......

Mr. Alternator replaces the bearings with a better design. Bearing failure is a common issue, particularly on the Supercharged models. If the money is in the budget, that is the better choice by far.

I bought a rebuild/upgrade kit from http://www.alternatorparts.com/ for a cs-130 alternator. It worked out well for me. I see hey have some HO alts for 3800'* but I have not tried them nor do I know, off hand, how their prices compare to other places. Might be worth checking out though. They deal mostly with GM alts.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I will probably go with a 200 Amp........more power = more volume & less problems with dimming lights and performance
What does the 92 Bonne come with from the factory ? How many Amps ?

Thanks again,
Dutch
