It'* not just the newer PCM'*. I'm opening the door to the possibility of running the 160°
thermostat in the summer. The OBD2 PCM'* will throw a light and cause issues with being
stuck in open loop, ignoring the oxygen sensor. The OBD1 PCM does the SAME THING, but
won't throw an SES light. That can wreak havoc on your fueling when trying to run cool.
Particularly at the track when running a very cool thermostat, and icing down between runs.
Hummm I've been running a 160* drilled t-stat and have never once seen it go into open loop. I've even ran without a t-stat and have not had a problem.

I'm confused, how does the "Happy ****" differ from those bunk eBay "modules" that aren't supposed to work?

Several things.

First of all, that eBay module puts you at a fixed degree of timing AT ALL TIMES, regardless of any other conditions. (keep in mind the modules WILL NOT work on OBD2, but may on OBD1). Secondly, you can't 'tune' it in for a sweet spot, and if you get KR, there'* no way to adjust it back other than going back to the stock IAT.

Advancing timing on an application using a Turbo or Supercharger is a tricky spooky business. Variability is the key. A scantool is a survival tool.

They do have potentiometer style AIT spoofs on ebay.

Did it cost more than $3? Half the game, BTW is knowing HOW FAR you can go without going boom.

The difference between the two was the question. The ebay spoofs are overpriced of course but a pot is pretty cheap like you said. Knowing how far to go and which pot to buy is key.
The only thing I'm concerned with is the AIT input and the fueling. It'* obiously going to add more fuel. The Integrator will eventually set the block learn multiplier to give the proper fueling via O2. But it will be putting you lower and further away from a BLM of 128 which the computer was designed to run around. IIRC this makes it harder for the computer to fine tune the fueling itself.

Mike, this is exactly why I'm building it to test with.

What I don't get either is that the computer is only going to advance the timing soo much (max timing). So even if it was going to works best case you are only going to have max timing which most of us have anyways at WOT. Best of luck with it hopefully it all works out for you.

Max timing is one thing. KR in the heat of summer is another. I may not want to set it to max depending on other factors/issues.

There will also be a time this year that I'll be RETARDING my timing intentionally. This is a great method of doing that.
