Default Thermostat question

Hey, i'm going to put in a 180* t-stat within the next few days and was wondering if anyone who has done this before could tell me if i will notice an increase in performance, and what kind of difference will it make.

Hope you don't mind, but rather than start a new thread I thought I'd jump in on this one with a related question...I've seen many guys mentioning "drilled" T-stat...what does "drilled" refer too? Is this a bypass or pressure relief hole of some type?

As stated the t-stat is a good first step even if you aren't planning on modding. It can be especially beneficial depending on your climate.

Try searching for info as well. Drilling it also helps keep things cooler, usually not necessary for a lot of people. If you plan on many modifications and/or are in a hot climate drilling will help even more. Here'* one of many helpful links:

Drilling will really only help those who run their cars at the track. The hole is their to soften the initial temps when the t-stat opens.

If you are on the street it will not help you other then making your car run just a tad colder.

Drilling it should also allow any extra air trapped in the block to be more easily let out from when you drained the coolant to install the t-stat. The car should generally warm up more slowly too. I just did mine this past weekend. Here'* some before/after pics of the temp gauge to give you an idea of how it affects temp readings. Both were taken after being on the highway for over an hour, upper 30'* outside.
195* T-stat

180* T-stat
