Default Series II L67 O-60 speeds

What are you guys with your Series II */c engines running 0-60? My Riv ran it ONCE in 6.8 seconds but that'* the best it could ever do it. The average seems to be a measly 7.5 seconds. :( I don't know, maybe the riv weighs more than a Bonneville but I think my mom'* 2000 SSEi feels quite a bit faster in the upper RPM ranges. did they change anything from 1997 to the 2000 L67 besides the black engine cover on the 2000'*?

Also, what are you getting for fuel economy? The riv gets about 26, the SSEi gets 24.

The SSEi'* are supposed to be 7.5 to 60, but it is one of the slowest cars the L67 is in. The GTP'* do it in 6.8, Regals in 7.0, and I don't know about the rest, but the Park Avenue Ultra is the slowest because it weighs so much and it is like 7.8. I am sure with a good driver, these times could all be better, but this is what the magazines say.

Stock mine ran 7.5 seconds. See my profile for my upgraded performance figures.
It is heavy at 3800 lbs, about 300 lbs heavier than a GP.

I noticed that the new Grand Prix 2004 with the 260 hp Competiion Group option runs it in 6.6 sec and it weighs 3700 lbs.

Are these GM claimed times? Because times greatly depend on how skilled of a driver you are.

They are quoted from Car and Driver road test reports and my own personal experience.
2000 SSEi test - Nov.1999 Car & Driver
2004 GP Comp - July 2003 Car & Driver

I know what you mean though. Getting the right balance of traction is difficult with these frontwheel pullers.

Default I got 6.7 secs on the g-tech

With my minor mods and before the aftermarket stereo my best 0-60 out of 3 was 6.7secs.Thats pretty darn good considering i weigh in at 255lb'*(being Paulnan the beerbarian my guns weigh in at 65lb'* a peice.Mind you that was on a g-tech :o .How accurate are these g-techs from your experiences anyways?.

What are you talking about. The tires don't spin at all on the SSEi with the slicks on.

But yes, you are correct, traction sucks in FWD cars!

I noticed that the new Grand Prix 2004 with the 260 hp Competiion Group option runs it in 6.6 sec and it weighs 3700 lbs.
Yes, it supposedly has awesome traction control, and you just nail it off the line and you just get tire chirp, no spin. I find it hard to believe, but that is what I hear. But its that 260 horsepower and horribly underrated 280lb.ft of torque that make it so quick. (More like 325lb.ft.)

It is heavy at 3800 lbs, about 300 lbs heavier than a GP.
Yes, but that is not what makes it slower.
1) The SSEi has very harsh traction control that will pull timing (give you KR) if the tires spin at all, no matter if the traction control is on or off.
2) The SSEi was designed to handle good so it has a close to 50/50 weight ratio. Because of that, there is a bunch of weight in the back (battery, compresser for automatic leveling, etc), and the whole front of the car is aluminum. So there is no weight over the front wheels, and a bunch over the rear wheels.
3) The SSEi has bigger and heavier wheels and tires than the GTP.
4) The SSEi has bigger and heavier brakes than the GTP. (Rotating mass makes a huge difference in performance)
5) Lots of other things I don't feel like writing right now.
If you go to Intense-racing.com there is a big list of disadvantages that the SSEi has IIRC. You will then understand that it isn't just the weight that makes SSEi'* slower than GTP'*.

Even though I have a SE with out traction control, I find that my tires spin when I don't want them to and do not spin when I feel like clownin around in a parking lot.

This is usually because if the gas petal is all the way down to the floor I get a hesitation in power and throttle responce, but if I push it like 4/5 or 3/4 of the way down I get massive tire spin and torque steer.

I rarely allow my car to do a burnout, I get freaked out over ripping apart the front end. :?
