Well for a while now since Pontiac Nationals I have been throwing a 0742 code which is a TCC Stuck on code. We ran through the trouble shooitng matrix replacing the pressure control switch, the TCC solenoid, the internal trans wiring harness and replaced the converter. Even after all that I was still throwing the code so I decided to bite the bullet and get my trans built.

I went with the full INTENSE rebuild kit and had a well respected local trans shop put it together for me. You can see the parts in my mod list. After inspecting the internals final diagnosis was the valve body needed replaced and most of my clutches were burned (guess I've been pretty hard on it).

Now that the new one is in the car feels completely different, in a good way. The shifts are sharp and instant. My 1-2 shift at 3/4 throttle breaks the tires loose again and the acceleration with the 3.69 gears is awesome.

I've always had the fear of snapping my input shaft, or grinding away the 4th gear clutch shaft like Caminated2K did but never thought my valve body would be the death of the trans. The trans shop that built it informed me of a TSB fix for the valvebody that I never had done and that may ahve been the ultimate cause. They did the fix on the new valvebody that went in and gave it all a clean bill of health.

For those that have driven my car, or ridden it, you will not believe the difference the new trans makes. I get giddy now everytime I drive it and look for reasons to go to the store, or rent a movie, or take a drive to the park. The 3.69 gears do take a bit to get used to and i'm sure im going to hate the 30% loss of gas mileage but the smile on my face makes it all worth it.

Todd, I had no gear change, just a quality performance rebuild with shift kit and heavy duty TC (stock stall), and a custom built Diff (not LSD). The difference between my two cars now is SHOCKING with regards to shifts. I'm right there with you.

How does your 0-60 compare with the stock trans? I imagine those new gears help quite a bit. Any estimates?

I cant get a good 0-60 on teh street with no traction. At the track I would estimate 3.5 - 3.9.

Well, he got quicker. His top speed capabilities are certainly lower than they used to be. How will this affect your trap speeds, Todd?

Not sure but I think it will lower it by a mph or 2. We will find out soon enough when I get it to the track. Dealing with an overheating issue at the moment. Electric Water Pump going on soon

Now you can stomp on it to your heart'* content Todd! It'* nice when you have the firmed up shifts, and the confidence the tranny will hold up. I had 3.29 gears put in mine with a slightly higher stall torque...3.69 might be just a tad too steep on a street car for my liking.
