Default blower pully upgrade

hey i got a 1997 ssei and i was wondering what would be a safe pully (other than stock) to put on??? i was thinking of going with a 3". but i was talking with some friends at school and they were saying if i go with a pully that small, that i would have to flash the computer.

i was wondering if somebody could give me some guidelines and tips on this upgrade. and where i might be able to find a pulley on the web.

realistically..................

You would have to make sure the car has a good tune up first.

Scan first for KR(knock retard) to see how it does after the tune up
Then after a CAI/FWI or gutted airbox,180* thermostat,,high flow cat and possibly an F-body muffler, you should be safe to a 3.4

Major mods would be required for a drop to a 3.0

As Dbeast mentions.. 3.0 is unrealistic without a bunch of supporting mods.

Which would include
Headers
Seriously upgraded intake including intercooler and ported blower

I'm moving this to Performance & Brainstorming to get better visibility for determining needed mods.

Your computer has very little to do with it in the sense that your school friends are talking about. Doesn't sound much like they know jack **** about supercharging to be honest.

You MIGHT be safe to go to a 3.4 in stock form, but not likeley. If you don't want to spend the money on intake and exhaust, 3.5 is your limit for now.

The whole people not knowing jack sh*t is an ever growing problem, I talk to people in college about cars sometimes, and am simply blown away by their ignorance at times. Like just the other day I was talking to a GTP owner and he was telling me hed just ordered a smaller pulley...that would give him over 300hp at the wheels!....I laughed in his face and tried to set him straight, but he just got mad.

Anyway, like Willwren said, 3.5 is best if you want to remain completely stock, but at least gut your airbox. Its free to do if you have the right tools.

As for places to buy pulleys, check out the links section at the top of the page. My personal recommendation would be to get them from Intense Racing, because although Ive never personally done business with them, Ive seen the members here that have and all seem to be happy.

hey thanks....i just remembered that i have two FLOWMASTER 40 series...and my car already has a cold air intake on it...so my second question is. will the flowmasters provide enough exhaust flow... or will it be a good idea to change the cat. and the resonator??? along with the 3.5 pulley?

Your cat is a bigger restriction than the mufflers so focus on that first. Removing the resonator doesn't do much for performance and a lot of people think it sounds like crap without it. I believe Willwren added a resonator to his setup.

The series 40 won't work for you since it is a single in/single out.
You need an F body muffler such as one for a camaro or a firebird. It will be a single in /dual out like this one. It'* a series 80

Preferably a single 2 1/2"/dual 2 1/2 out. .
Magnaflow or Flowmaster, your choice. There are some nice Flowmaster systems here and some nice magnaflow.

A high flow cat would be a good idea and definately keep the resonator

Forget the mufflers unless you care about sound alone. Change the Cat to a Hi-Flow cat, don't delete the resonator, and you should be fine with a 3.5", but I'd still suggest you scan.

There are MAYBE 2 or 3 cars here that can out-flow stock mufflers.
