Hollow cat or remove resonator?
I have an appointment at 11:00 in the morning to get my cat replaced with the hollowed out cat I from my 1992 SE. I am wondering if I should pick up a straight piece of 2.5" stainless steel and have the reonator replaced with the straight pipe and leave the stock cat alone? I don't want to cut them both out because then my car would be way too loud being I already have the Magnaflow Wide Open Muffler with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets.
What do you guys (and gals) think I should have done?
Sorry about the short notice, but I just thought of it this afternoon and wanted it done by Sunday for the Minnesota Meet.
Thanks in advance,
Martin (AKA -Stylez)

Is your car SCed or just NA?
I remember reading in the tech info, 3" for SC, and 2.5" for NA for pipe size.
(if that helps any... I know it was in regards to exhaust)

I would say the 2.5" pipe would be fine.... that'* what I'm using on my car.
But wait until one of the true guru'* speaks up before trusting my mechanical knowledge.

My main question though was whether to do the hollowed out cat and leave the resonator, or replace the resonator with a 2.5" stainless pipe and leave the stock cat alone (has 191,716 miles on it)?

I may have the same Magnaflow as you OLBlueEyesBonne. And I am going to get a hi-flow CAT this summer. I actually want a louder sound than now. I may take my res out and put it back in if it is too loud or raspy.
But Jim has no res, and a hi-flow CAT and Magnaflow, and his sounds GREAT!

We have emissions testing here in Ontario every 2 years. I needed a cat converter, but was not interested in a resonator. The opted high flow cat was an easy decision for me. I have environmental morals so making sure I had a cat was a no brainer. That being said....any NA car will do just fine with a 2.5" pipe. I wanted mandreal bends, but that was a little to spendy at the time.
Thanks for the plug Peter, I'm quite happy with the sound of my car....now I just have to intake it and I'll be rollin for sure.
