Default hey guys any suggestions to my old 3800 lesabre

I got a 90' Buick Lesabre Limited 3800 (the brown bingo car as my friends call it) but it smokes the tires off (honestly i have had both tires billowin smoke out of the wheel wells at the same time done it time and time again, LOL i make mouths drop to the ground...so its a good car...stuff already done are:

new motor and trans:60 k on it (from another 90 lesabre limited)
new plugs
fram air filter
quaker stake synthetic q
a good oil filter (forget which one)
NGK spark plugs
new delco plug wires
die electric grease on sparkplugs and coilpack plugs (good old crappy northern ontario weather) I find it to make a small diffrence, car starts faster idles betters especially on really cold and wet days
Transmission cooler
synthetic q tranny fluid
tranny filter
rad flush
2.50 exhaust starting at manifolds with a magnaflow high flow catalytic and straight pipe all the way out the back (idleing at 500 sounds like my dads 69 amx with headers lol)
new belt w/o AC
got rid of A/C Condensor and rad and such to lighten up the load.

i plan on getting some 8.2mm taylor thundervolt plug wires? anyone ever try these, along with the accel magnavox style coil pack (any other ignition upgrades i can do?)
Also I see people mentioning cleaning the throttle body, how should i go about this?
I will be doing the airbox mod soon(baffles and what not gone ) and making it ram air with a piece of large pipe running from the airbox to behind the front grill. Also doing the 180 degree thermostat switch and im going to be tuning my tranny modulator (i believe i have 4T60 they got the vacuum operated modulator correct?)

now i have had people say you can up your "hp and torque" with just a resistor, i forget the name of the sensor but appearntly this sensor is on the air intake and it meausures how hot old cold the air coming in is (anyone know the name of the sensor yet?) well appearntly a resistor can override this and tell the computer that the air is optimumal tempurature ALWAYS and therefore the computer modifies the air +fuel mixture making the motor take in more air + fuel = optimal performance all the time. am I off my "rockers" here or what? these kinda things are on ebay also....just wondering since i dont know,
well guys sorry i type so much but this place rocks! thanks for any help or any suggestions for this old car since im looking to make it as fast as i can while its my only vehicle...once we have another vehicle one of these days i am putting a sc II 3800 in straight in this buick.[/list]

That IAT "chip" won't work for crap. Even if it did, you could just go to radioshack and wire in a resistor of the resistance you want. The PCM is smarter than that.
I'd stay away from Taylor wires too. They don't have the best track record for reliability on this forum. Get Belden premiums from Napa. They've got a lifetime warranty too.
If you're smokin your tires that much, maybe consider some higher performance ones that can actually put down that power to the road.

You've lost low-end torque with that exhaust setup. Get a muffler back on there, or restrict the pipe a bit.

Get the synthetic trans fluid out. It could cause problems as you put higher miles on the car.

Want some free Taylor'*? I have FOUR failed sets here. Yup. FOUR. From less than 2 years.

Throttle body cleaning is in Techinfo. Link at the top of the page. You'll need a new TB gasket.

Ram air is proven to have zero effect below 120mph. Forget it. And I don't recall any baffles in the early 3800 airboxes.

You can only 'tune' your modulator if you have an adjustable on the car. OEM is not adjustable.

That chip/resistor is a joke. You can trick it for a short period of time, but it doesn't take long for the O2 sensor to realize what'* REALLY going on, and correct it again. Don't waste your money.

My intention here is not to be critical, but from our experience here, I thought you should know you're heading in the wrong direction if you're trying to add power.

yeah i already figured as much with the muffler and so my cousin owns a muffler shop so he does it cheap for me (gonna get a flowmaster 50 on there)I plan on throwing an adjustable modulator on the tranny is what i meant...just gotta go grab one(and consider the synthetic tranny fluid GONE) ....and after doing some more reading on here i see that the accel coil pack isin't much good and i should goto the delco seperate packs...everyone have good luck and performance with this? and im going to go with those belden wires hope they work good, thanks for linking me to the techinfo also, thanks! also i was wondering if anybody can direct me towards some rockers/valve springs/ nice valve covers? non baffled preferably and taller than these stock, what are they, plastic? lol. also wondering if theres any headers out there to fight in a 90 lesabre...i have looked around but does anyone know? also got the tranny temp gauge to go in anyday now.

and dude if you think im going in the wrong way to try to add power...then direct me to power running NA...for now anyway...hehe

definitely the delco coils are better, they have a MUCH hotter spark, you will notice that your car will start with almost NO effort. as far as rockers and valvesprings, i'm not sure if they are P&P with the LN3, but you can check out this page http://www.seriesoneperformance.com/valvetrain.html for those parts. as far as the headers go, you don't need them, it would take a HECK of alot to have an LN3 outflow its stock manifolds.

if you really want to go all out, and you wanna go fast with the car you have, consider a supercharged engine swap. if you are SERIOUS about really making one QUICK car, then it is worth the effort. do a search for frankenbonne, that'll give you a good idea what is involved.

oh and just to let you know, you claimed you were "smoking your tires" well just to let you know, unless you feel like replacing your transmission REALLY soon, the THM440T4 can only take so much. I see that you only have 60k on your current drivetrain, but to be totally honest, if you want do do that kinda thing, keep the funds around to buy a reman/rebuilt 440T4 with stronger internals.

also, you got rid of your ac condenser and rad? just to get your terms straight, you probably mean the compressor (one on engine) and condenser (one in front of the radiator) but im curious, why did you do that? What real benefit do you see from it, unless you're running a real race vehicle, the compressor running freewheel really is not taking up any extra energy. without a condenser, you can cool your engine easier, but don't you use your A/C in the summer?

hah no it'* called 460 from where i come from...4 windows down 60 mph...lol...anyway there was no charge in the system the ac condensor was rotting way to nothing and i needed to install a tranny cooler there since my old tranny lines had rotted away, getting rid of all of it did make under the hood look alot cleaner and all that crap weigh'* in at least 100lbs that i ripped out, and yes i have been takin it easy, its been in my garage all winter hasnt seen snow all its seen is work. and btw if i blow this engine or tranny than thats even reason to sooner put a sc in

You won't find headers, and you don't need them. Assuming you develop more flow in the engine, simply port your stock exhaust manifolds.

To go with those rockers listed at S1Performance, you'll need new valvesprings also. If you're going that far, change the pushrods and lifters also. You're almost better going with a cam instead for the cost, but I'd suggest getting cams and rockers directly from the aussie'* at http://www.yellaterra.com.au/

Flowmaster 50? FIFTY? Yikes. Try an 80. Or a Magnaflow. The LN3 sounds MUCH better with a magnaflow.

You'll need to convert to a newer style ICM to go with the 3 seperate coil packs. Try a search on the Forum. Particularly searching for "ICM" in the 87-91 section. Quite a few of them have converted.

The 3 members we know of that ran Accel coils had them fail within 30-45 days.
