Back to Stats!
Well, I've played a lot with Coolant thermostats over the last few years with my Bonne.
Mostly experimenting with the 180*F drilled vs non drilled, one hole, two holes, four holes.
The problem, I found out the hard way, with drilling too many or too large holes, was setting the SES light the tripping the "Engine failing to reach operating temperature" code.
So I decided to try a ZZP drilled 160*F Stat with their slick E-Stat.
The theory is simple with the E-Stat. It is simply another temperature sensor that connects parallel to the OE sensor but at a location that will read a higher temperature.
It is installed in one of the spare tapped holes in the front head. It doesn't enter into the water jacket but is right next to it, so it will read a higher temp, thus spoofing the PCM into thinking the coolant is warmer than it really is. Good trick.
There are only 2 holes in the ZZP stat and they are relatively large compared to the 1/16" holes I have been drilling. They measure 9/64".....just slightly bigger than 1/8".
I can hardly wait to try it out.
