Anyone running staggered tire sizes?
Just wondering if anyone has tried the Grand Prix GXP approach and is running bigger tires in the front than in the back. THe reason I am thinking about this is that, having and Olds 98, I can't put much more than a 225/60-16 in the back. Was wanting to go 245'* all the way around, but it ain't going to happen. Not too worried about the handling. No shortage of understeer in this beast anyway, so a little more neutrality would be fun. Actually, I always preferred a car that oversteered a litle, so no worries there.
Just curious as to if anyone has tried it.

I was running around with 245/50/16 Nitto'* on the front and 225/60/16 tires on the rear for a while I was deciding what replacement tires I wanted for DD. No problems running with that setup but the rear end tends to wobble around on the transition into a hard corner. On the plus side the car will have a nice rake to it.

I'm running 245-55-16 (or are they 50'*?) Toyo Proxes T1R'*. Fantastic tire, just don't plan on it in temperatures below 40, or on snow or ice. Dry or wet above 40 degrees F they are purely and simply the best tire I've ever driven on, and outperform my expectations by more than double.
HOWEVER, they won't last beyond 10-20k miles, but that'* 3-4 years on the Zilla.

I have a full set of winter rubber, so no worries there. I would have to make sure I got the same in the back. Otherwise it would be too much fun.

The Toyo'* are a 55-ratio.
bigerik:
If you're going to go 245 all the way around a 245/55/16 tire (Toyo T1R'* are really the only ones I've found) is almost the same diameter as the stock tires, a 245/50/16 is about an inch shorter in height than stock but just about every tire manufacturer makes something in that size. Just something to keep in mind.

There'* no way your Olds is different in the rear than mine, and my 245'* clear just fine. It'* full-lock steering up front that can be the problem. Mine rub slightly.

How much room from your 225'* to the skirt on the inside? With the T1R'*, you'll never be able to rotate them unless you dismount them first. They're directional tread.
