I was wondering what the options for a chip, computer tuner, etc. are for my 2000 SSEi. I haven't done anything to it yet. I am planning on a 3.4" pulley, ADTH intake, and maybe some exhaust work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Oh, and if you're going to do all those mods, do your car a favor and get a tranny cooler and a 180 degree stat too...think of it as insurance.

Yeah, that helps a little. I probably won't mess with that. I am only going to do what I mentioned before. I just want a little more get up and go, not a drag car! How important is the tranny cooler? I know it is a good idea, but I have to do mine a little at a time. I probably won't be running it very hard. Also, how does the computer handle the change in thermostat? I used to be in the auto parts business and I know they don't recommend changing temps on newer model cars. Thanks, keep the good info coming!

The thing about a tranny cooler is that it pays for itself the first transmission flush you aviod. I don't know about you, but I have had to do 2 flushes in 6 months, and at 80 bucks a pop, it'* too expensive for me to wait any longer. A cooler is only 65 bucks or so and it will save me a lot of grief. If this is not a problem for you than it may not be necessary (I think we drive it pretty hard he hee).

And I have never heard anything about a 180 degree thermostat being a problem, but a lot of people on here know more than me and I'll let them handle any concerns you have.

180 Stats won't be a problem at all. Mechanics have kind of discouraged some ppl and wouldn't install it for them, but the stats do their job. Definitely a MUST mod and very easy and inexpensive to do.

What do you guys know about 160 stats. Will it really do anything that the 180'* won't I got one for free so I'm thinkin of tryin it in my Bonnie.

Not recommended for stock cars. It wil run too cold. Go 180 and don't look back. Only hardcore Bonneville modifiers go 160. We're talkin rockers, headers, ported manifolds, enlarged TB'*, NOS, intake full blow exhuast, chip, pulleys...the whole nine yards.

Before we go way off track here, lets talk tranny protection and servicing for a moment.

Best thing to do, is get a tranny cooler. Flat out. Anything to keep that transmission running cooler will improve the longevity of your car. Tranny replacements are not cheap. Do what you can now to protect them. In my case, my 89 came stock with a tranny cooler. Transmission fluid lines ran into the radiator. Very clever design, cools the fluid constantly.

Also, when it comes to tranny fluid servicing. Dot it every 50K miles. Its not something that has to be done as often as an oil change or fuel line conditioning. Maintain the level of the fuid, make sure its light red and clear, kinda like watered down fruit punch. When the time comes to do the fluids....make sure its a COMPLETE FLUSH...very important...

If your car is a new/used purchase, get it done anyway, and reset the clock...I'm liucky again, in my Aurora, the on board computer has a diagnostic system that is constantly monitoring fluid life, based on elapsed time probably, my oil is at 83% and my tranny fluid is at 99%....good times

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll be getting a tranny cooler. Did any of the 2000 SSEi'* come with one from the factory? It'* raining or I would go look (I might melt , hurricane Isabel and all). Anyway, if not, it sounds like a good investment. How much work is involved in adding one? I know about some things automotive, but tranny coolers aren't one of them. Thanks again.

Chances are you have a stock tranny cooler and an oil cooler, my 96 Aurora does, so I can assume the 2000+ Bonnes have em as well.

Basically its 2 metal tranny fluid lines that run into your stock rad to cool the coolant before it runs back into your engine. In all honesty, you have a stock 180 T-stat, and a stock tranny cooler. Unless you modify heavily, you should be fine.
