Putting your maf screen in just to reduce the noise would not work. It would still hiss loud in the morning or whenever.

No, at least not on my 97. Is your RPM'* idling higher with the screen removed compared to when its in?

ya know, i'm not sure. i never really paid attention before i pulled it. i kinda did all my mods at once, which wasn't the best way to go at it. i wasn't able to check before/after effects of each aspect.

i pulled my MAF screen and it got a little louder, the idle was about the same. On an L36 its not really worth it. Mine is back in now.

Bought some reflectix and foil tape, it will probably go in this weekend along with an oil change.

My idle is fairly erratic, a nice lopey idle [mmm lope]. The lowest rpm in the lopey idle is just at 1 grand, which is where it has always been. The highest is 1100rpm. I however, have never noticed any sort of hissing, but I also have the factory air induction system.

It'* the IAC when you first start up. It sucks in more air when the engine is cold. I get a very loud hiss with my CAI.
