Default Where to spend $2000

Ok so the cars got 107,000 miles on it now and it needs a rebuild. Good luck finding a rebuild kit, know where I can get one? Anyway lets say I find a kit, what else should I replace? Valve springs? Valves? Bore it out?! I'm already planning on replacing every gasket I can find but what else is there? I know the fuel system can keep up with most mods (Willren) but even though, does the fuel pump go out often? Or should I go the other end and get new rods and a crank? Nah the rods should be good but would replacing all the bolts be a good idea? Just to insure I don't throw one? I'm really thinking I should concentrate on the "hidden" parts, pistons, head gaskets, valves etc. Just because I'll have the engine torn apart and when better? The rest can be replaced with the engine in. Of couse every part replaced is going to be a high performance version of it. This'll be my first major rebuild and I wanna go about it the right way, I could spend $5000 and still overlook the one thing thats going to fry and blow my engine. I went ahead and got a porting kit so while I have the heads off they're gonna get a little treatment. Still debating between trying to find headers or just port matching the stock ones. Anyway the intake is going to catch a porting while its off too. Any Ideas?! BTW most of this I'm doing myself at the local hobby shop. Depending on how well I can find parts and how much they cost to buy/install I might keep it in the shop for a few weeks and dump 3-4K in the engine. Then a month from then I'll have the trans rebuilt. Then the next paycheck I'm getting a complete suspension kit. I'm planning on starting this 2-3 weeks from now, depending on when I can get all the junk ordered and all my cash together. I've already got a third car ready so I can keep it in as long as necesary. This is really going to be a shoot from the hip kind of thing. If I like the way things are going I'll keep it in for a month or two and have it come out a beast. Hell its only $2 a day to store it. Who knows what else but in the next few months you guys might have something to talk about...or at least I will. Maybe I can get crazy and paint Bonnevilleclub.com down the side. haha

I would try finding a motor from the junkyard with low miles on it. How know what all you can get for 2 grand. If your really lucky maybe the whole motor, after throwing some parts over the fence. j/k.

well really 2k is the base, that what i'm GOING to spend. Who knows how much further it'll go. Chance are lower than 5k though. Sure buying an engine will get me another 100k miles but I want PERFORMANCE, and spending 2k on and engine I already have will get me way more power than 2k on a stock engine (obvious). In short buying a stock engine isn't the way I'm looking to go. Thanks tho

Well I was thinkin along the lines of getting another stock motor so that way you can take your time rebuilding the motor you want to work on now, so this way you have both a back up motor and tranny or you can sell it after everything is all done. But either which way good luck wit your project.

That'* exactly what I am doing. I will have one cruising engine and one racing, both being daily driver material. Watch out when porting the heads. The wall is much thinner with the SC motor due to the fact that the injectors are in the heads. The L36 heads can take a deeper porting. Watch out for the water jacket, too. If you get too thin, you'll blow out at high boost levels. Check out the Thrasher website - http://www.thrashercharged.com/L67_h...d%20heads.shtm - for a better look at this work.

#1 NEVER SHOW YOUR WALLET.LOL

#2 What is your final goal?
#3 break down what is needed to reach that goal.
#4 set a time line and start building the phases.

I suggest all the engine and suspension work be done first and then the body work. then interior.

There are many options and for your car you first need to decide on your hp wish. If you want 3-350hp a stock series 2 L36 can be done with a few mods..but that would be the limit before I would start rebuilding the innards. Yes you can go bigger but then you will be rebuilding soon anyway. I would personally go with a centrifugal super charger. First buy the engine set it up for nos (NX or T&T are top quality lifetime guaranteed systems). the nos will hold over until you decide wether 300-350hp is enough. If its not now rebuild the engine for more. Then go with the centrifugal sc kit. Easily in the 350hp range. The centrifugal system can put a 3.8l in the 700hp range if needed. Turbo’* are also a great option but my personal preference is centrifugal sc. Either will work and both say they are better than the other.

For prestige and fun a v8 can also be had but the cost is greater and is only truly beneficial if it is used for bigger hp gains. Well and if you want smogable hp the v8 is also another big plus.

Hah yeah I figured I could get more exact advice if I gave a round about on how much I have to spend. If I just said "What should I do?" People might give me their million dollar wish list.
