Default Lost power

Ok I have one that I am sure others have talked about but I can not find it. I have recently installed a flow master on my car. Sence I have done so I have lost power, when in park and you rev it up ........it cuts out like there was a rev limitor. I am thinking that I am not getting enough air..or that there is something in the puter that I need to set. If there is anyone with a simallar problem let me know...or if someone know what I should do that would be great as well....I have a ssei and it is a 1996. Thanks Mike

How much have you lost? What about when you are driving? How does it feel? You should have a rev limiter though. Sounds odd you noticeably lost power if you just put in a muffler. :?

He may be feeling his loss of torque?

Your car should have a rev limiter at about 4000rpm while standing still and about 5500 or 6000 while moving. You might have never noticed the rev limiter while standing still. I had my car for about a year and a half before I noticed mine. I thought it was my NGK'* that did it because I had installed them the day before and I was showing off for a friend reving my engine. I guess it was the first time I had reved it standing still. As for the muffler you shouldn't have lost any power, especially with the supercharger on there. Some guys run 3" exhaust and don't have many problems.

Except a loss in torque, which is more noticable than a loss or gain in HP. That is why a lot of people put on mufflers or a different exhaust or something like that and complain about lost power, when really they gained 10hp, but lost 5lb. ft, because the torque is more noticable because you don't rev to 5000+ enough to notice the 10hp gain.

You are definately hitting the rev limiter in park. Like has been already posted, the rev limiter should be about 4000rpms in park.

He may be feeling his loss of torque?
Thats exactly right.

interesting...I put the magnaflow on my 96 SSEi and didn't feel it lose anything...didn't feel it gain anything really either. It'* so hot here it'* hard to test it without the engine temps going up to 240!

I admit, I don't know a whole lot but, I seem to think that just adding a muffler to a stock exhaust isn't going to do much. I think you need to do the whole thing before any noticeable gains are made.

But those supercharged cars so damn powerful it doesn't suprise me that your aren't noticing any changes. Do the whole exhuast then I feel you will get that performance increase that we all want

I agree. I only have a Magnaflow muffler...no Hi flow CAT yet, and the biggest change I have noticed is the sound. If I gained hp I would not know how much, and if I lost torque it is very minimal.

Sence I have done so I have lost power, when in park and you rev it up ........it cuts out like there was a rev limitor. I am thinking that I am not getting enough air..or that there is something in the puter that I need to set.
It sounds like what Miketa said above is that because of the limit on the revs, he thinks he lost power. He doesn't mention how it feels when driving. Only says it 'cuts out' in P and therefore he thinks he lost power. He must have not known before now about his rev limiter.

You need to watch out revving the engine in park, if your tranny has the same problem mine has. If I rev mine to about 2k, when it is coming back down, the tranny make a clunk that sounds like someone hit it with a hammer. And the car actually lurches forward. I was told this is a problem with the overrunning clutch, that on some cars it catches when it isn't supposed to. They say it can wreck ur tranny if you do this too much. My solution to this: don't do it.

Well good new...I decide today to gut the air box and when I removed the whole thing I found a broken vacum line. Once I fixed it and completed the air box, I took it for a ride....itis back! I have my power back...yeh!!!
