Default how much is too much?

Does anyone know how much added on power and torque a stock 1992 trans can take?
(without nitrous) so all the power is always active.

I've got the 4t60-e transmission and i know that it can handle up to 354 lb-ft torque. I emailed gm for those numbers. You have the 4t60-hd tranny so it'* gotta be more than that.

Well the "absolute" max it can handle is around 750 HP! Of coarse this is with "extensive" modifications too mind you.

Well actually he'* got the 4T60-E Trans. The 4T60-HD Trans was in mostly Cadilacs, but never in a Bonneville. 87-91 Bonnevilles had the 4T60, 92-96/97 had the 4T60-E & the 97+ had the 4T65-E.

RPM'* are your real issue with that transaxle.
400 is no problem with a well built unit but when it’* a high revving unit then you will find premature/excessive wear.

sorry for stealing the thread but...what is my tranny called in my 88le. it just says metric hydramatic div. of gmc on the pan. back to the topic...your stock tranny was made for being a grocery getter and not hot rodding so i'd say only 50 or so hp over stock but i dunno.

The 88 Bonneville LE had a THM 440-T4 trans A.K.A 4T60...

The 96 SE, SLE and SSE non SC'd had the 4T60-E trans, and the SSEi or SC'd bonnevilles had the 4T60-E Heavy Duty transmission...
Actually the SSEi'* came with the 4T65-E'* !!! Which IS the HD version of the 4T60-E!!!! Later the SSEi'* got the 4T65-E HD'* too.
