I'm thinking about getting a PCM and I noticed this option:
"Increase WOT ignition timing tables by up to 3 degrees - ideal for naturally aspirated vehicles with any premium fuel, or supercharged vehicles with stock camshaft where 93 or 94 octane fuel is readily available (+$10.00)"

Assuming I'm willing to put in premium, what if any benefits will I see? Anyone ever tried this before? My car is basically "tuned up" and in good running order. I've got a 180* Tstat, CAI, and NGK-TR55'* for plugs. Thanks for the imput!

I think you would be fine getting their Standard PCM with added timing, especially if you start using premium fuel. You might even be able to get away with running 89 octane, but make sure you scan for KR if you try it. Some might say that exhaust is in order before you do a PCM, but I think you'll be totally fine running one in current trim.

You'll notice the car being a little more peppy, and I swear I could hear a tiny bit more "pop" in the exhaust note. It'* also very possible that I was imagining it . Anyway, you'll definitely be able to tell a difference. It won't be a huge boost in power, but you'll get 5-10 extra ponies from the timing, and you'll really like how the motor winds up to 6k before shifting.

Did you get your timing advanced as well? What you said makes sense and goes along with what I was thinking/hoping to hear. As far as the 6k shifts go...I don't have rockers or a cam yet, and I may never do that. I want to do something "fun" to help tide me over until I can get an SSEi. I graduate college this December and should have a job and $$ to "upgrade."

You don't need rockers or a cam to rev to 6k. I had an Intense PCM long before I did my cam. Your car will handle it just fine, especially with the 180* tstat and TR55s (those are a range colder than stock, aren't they?). I think if you decide to go ahead and do it, you'll really enjoy it. It'* nice to have the traction control and torque management backed off, and it'll help you have a little more fun with everyday driving.

Like I said, if you have access to a scantool, you might even be able to get away with running midgrade. I actually ran 89 octane for quite some time on my Intense PCM with stock cam and heads, though I never scanned the car. I would use premium if you don't have a scanner to check for KR with lower octane.
