Default tired of being slow

I have a 95 with a 00 regal NA and I'm tired of hitting the gas against my gf'* friends impala ss and still seeing him pass, I know theres no magic fix to make my car have the power of almost another 100 ci'* but is there something relatively simple that could make me faster? Would putting the supercharger on it really help that much? Or would i have to do something crazy and custom?

If you do an L67 top swap, it'* basically a magic bullet that would make your car faster. Having an L36, you have more compression than an L67, so you'd end up with about 250 hp at the crank. With $200 headers, a mild cam like an S1X from Intense, LS6 valve springs (assuming you're using a Regal 00 NA engine), and an L67 top swap, you would trash that Impala so very, very nicely.

Top swap would do it, but it'* not really cheep. Where are you located? Might be close to some members that can help. I have a full top swap sitting in my shop.

Actually, wait I've changed my mind. Turbocharge it! You don't even need to intercool it or anything. You need a $10 plate to block off the rear exhaust manifold output, change out the crossover to one with a turbo flange, put in a turbo, get a downpipe, and route an intake tube from the turbo outlet to the throttle body. This allegedly gets you to around 300 hp and is nicer on your transmission. Throw in an intercooler, and you're even further ahead! You don't even need to open up the engine, though doing that and going to a more awesome cam is recommended by 40 out of 39 doctors.

The problem is that you'd spend $2300 on it...

Hmm...

Do you have a pre-99 throttle body, the one with the huge MAF post? You should get one if you don't have it, send it in to ZZP so they can modify it to read higher airflow, and then use it in a turbo build. I've talked to them about this, and they say either go with that or with an LQ4/LT1 MAF sensor. The advantage to a turbo setup is that you don't need a huge throttle body or anything beyond stock heads to get to 500 hp since the turbo does all the work for you.

$550 Turbocharger
$90 Wastegate perch instead of stock downpipe
$210 TiAL Wastegate
$6 EGR blockoff plate or a penny in the original EGR plate
$130 Turbo oiling kit
$250 downpipe
$250 crossover
$10 ghetto-glued breather filter on your oil cap
$60 Used L67 fuel injectors
Various intake parts:

That puts you at under $1600 before shipping and before you buy intake tubing and a ~97 L67 throttle body and send in its MAF sensor for modification.

Just saying.

Also, an M90 top swap would work.

Still dont have those kind of funds, I think I'll just wait til I can afford a l67 and drop that in, possibly to the cam and valvetrain work before i drop. What about nos kits or porting? I'm not really sure what porting is though.

Whoops, didn't mean to go overboard. Well, maybe a little.

A NOS kit should work! You're less than $500 away. Porting is enlarging ports through which air flows inside your engine. This lets you get more air to go through your engine, and so it makes more power.

Welltheres a local scrap yard that sells whole running engine/trans with gaurantees so I though just grabbing an l67 and then throwing a shot of nitrous with a small jet and cam and valve work shouldn't cost a crazy load right?
